Can’t wait to see this in person. I will hold my opinion until I can touch and see one. I hope real life proves the pictures wrong. In the past it was unheard of to get nothing but v8, then 6 cylinder. Then turbocharged and now even 3 cylinder’s that I drive daily and never feared merging onto the highway. Meanwhile I couldn’t be happier with my first Lexus product, 2024 UL.

I'm one of the few that doesn't find it offensive even in the pictures. Let's start seeing them at dealerships soon but no thanks in orange.

I'm keeping my eye on this one. Currently drive a discontinued hybrid AWD Acrua RLX, and the 8th gen looks closer in exterior dimensions to the RLX than previous ES versions. Wish the 8th gen was JDM.

I had to look up your RLX since I don't see them too often... I would have thought that a circa 2010 ZDX might be a better comparison.

Seems our new ES is about 10" longer, 3" narrower, and ~1" shorter in comparison to that. Having graduated from the 5th gen to the 7th gen 6 months ago, I'm still getting used to the increased dimensions even from that transition. Definitely takes more care while parking and taking turns as I've gently clipped a few curbs already, vs. whipping comfortably around in the old car. While I could probably get used to the overall styling, I'm concerned that this model has swollen into such leviathan proportions that it would be an easier feat commanding an AT-AT around the streets of New York.

I look forward to seeing the new model at the dealership and hope it's at least easier on the eyes than we've been expecting.

Just save yourself a lot of money and buy a KIA or Hyundai. Let everyone know you are a non-car person

If Lexus brought the hybrid at the same time as the EV in US the EV would barely sell. It is a strategic move for EV they are betting on. When I asked dealer here about when hybrid would be coming he said it depended on how well the EV is selling to there availability.

Isn't it odd that the Hybrid costs more than the EV?

I think we ALL have to give it a chance.

To a certain extent, we have to give Lexus some credit for stepping outside the ES box with something Bold.
In the end it may not be for everyone but still let's be happy Lexus did not replace it with some lifted type SUV-ish ES.

Absolutely give it a chance. From what I see right now no specifications on the hybrid and if like the EV with no spare I will most likely not be buying.

I hate EVs and I will never own one.
Let’s say I like the looks of the 8ES (I don’t) and let’s say I want to buy the hybrid…OK, but where is the Luxury trim? WTF Lexus?

Default No V6

Wonder how many will buy this car not realizing it has a 4 cylinder engine?
Embarrassed salesmen may not dare bring it up unless asked.
Yeah I know it’s a turbo and has decent power.
Hope it sounds better than most Toyota 4 bangers at full throttle.

Backwards move for them, IMO. There's already a ***** to the wall ground up EV effort from Legacy Auto and it's called Mustang Mach-E (and admittedly it's a great EV FWIW). And its been out a WHILE now and its sales? Lets just say it's a faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaar distant second from the top selling EV brand.

So Toyota is basically betting that this ES electric with less range and power than a Mach E suddenly leapfrogs it? That it somehow shoots to the top half of the EV sales chart? Currently Toyota is last time i checked around #13 or #14 in EV sales. so what does this ES electric do significantly better?

Well the 7ES hybrid was a 4 cylinder already. This also has a what 20% increase in hp?

I vote to separate the 7th gen from the 8th gen. I just don't understand why you would combine them.
