I went through all of my HUD settings and they have been enabled for HUD display for my Android Auto using Google Maps,
but it is not showing on my HUD. I have a 2025 ES350-UL --- What am I missing?

As you can see. 1st Pic are my settings

2nd Pic is the Route I just Entered showing turns in Android auto and Google Maps

3rd Pic is the HUD showing only the Compass and Speed. (Sorry for the background junk)

...
From the HUD illustration and the 🄰 callout description on page 82 of the 2025 LEXUS ES250, ES350 OWNER'S MANUAL USA AND CANADA ONLY:

🄰 Driving support system display area (→P.84)
Navigation system-linked display area (if equipped)

Displays the following items which are linked to the navigation system:
• Route guidance to destination
• Street name
• Compass (heading-up display)

Notice that "Navigation system-linked" qualifier?

Best as I've ever been able to determine, that's solely and strictly Lexus native navigation system supplied information. Neither Apple CarPlay nor Android Auto map and navigation apps operate under or display their information through the native navigation system. So, whatever a map and navigation app operating on and display screen composing on a smartphone that gets sent to Lexus's CarPlay or Android Auto software for displaying isn't navigation system-linked display information that will display in that HUD display area nor the Multi Information Display's (MID) driving support system information display tab screen.

P.S. I did see VeroCarGuy's post in the "Google Maps no longer giving Voice Directions .............." thread. That's the first time anyone has posted on getting any Apple CarPlay or Android Auto map and navigation app route guidance data displayed on this ES generation's HUD.

Yes, I did see some discussions doing a google search, where people were seeing Nav Info on the HUD...... Here is one from Club Lexus post number 5..... This was I believe for the 2022 -Current NX -----

https://www.clublexus.com/forums/nx-2nd-gen-2022-current

I also just tried the Lexus Navigation and it worked on the HUD just fine. So, that means that my car is set up correctly.

Maybe it will come along in a future update?

The NX is using a different electrical architecture platform than the 2023 and later model year ESs are using. If you look into 2022 and later model year Lexus Interface NXs equipped with a HUD, you'll find the HUD displays and operating controls are much, much different than the ES's. What may work on the NX won't necessarily work on this generation of ES which is why I qualified my P.S. remark "… on this ES generation's HUD".

I had the same question and it has been driving me nuts since I got my car last December.

Finally I think I found the answer. The gps only shows up on the hud when there is an upcoming turn. So if you are driving straight and your next turn is not up until another 3 miles, the hud will only show the compass. However when you are about 1/2 mile away, you will see the gps turn on the hud.

Go for a spin and try

Thanks for your reply........ However, I just tried this and it is not working for me.... I tested a navigation route with 5 turns in it, and still got no HUD display at all. What I did notice that I had not seen before, is that when I start my car while the Android Auto is booting up, I see the Outside temperature displayed briefly on the upper right side of the HUD. It goes away after the A.A. is fully booted.

One question.... Are you using Android Auto with Google Maps like me?

You have a ’25 ES? If you can’t figure it out, have you considered just asking at the dealership? At the one where I bought my ’22 ES they have someone whose job was to be a tech assistant. He was the one who helped me set up everything on the car at delivery and I was given his card. I did call him once with a question. Hopefully your selling dealer has someone to do this, as these systems can be confusing.

First, I'd like to see if anyone has this working. It most likely is not supported. I've only seriously taken a look at this yesterday. And I'm completely aware of the Lexus technical people, as I worked with the dealership when they had to refresh my car with the Lexus Servers to solve a remote locking problem. I do thank you for your reply.

I have both iPhone and Android and they both show on the HUD from time to time.

It would be very useful if you could post a picture of your HUD display when it is showing Navigation information.

Are you using Google Maps and never the Lexus built-in Navigation?

I use Google Maps when using my Android and Apple when using my iPhone. Both appears on my hud.
The built in Lexus maps also shows up on the hud but I don't like using it because the Lexus app won't let you split screen with any music app. Bummer.

I'll get pictures later when I get off work.

The brief appearance of the outside temperature display on the HUD has been part of this generation's HUD start up process. No Android Auto nor Apple CarPlay involvement needed. If you pay attention, you'll also see a "x1000" in the HUD's tachometer display area briefly get displayed during the HUD's startup sequence.

This was also discussed in the Temperature on the HUD thread a few years ago.

Ok I finally was able to get the gps directions on the HUD. This is using my iPhone with Apple maps. You may have to zoom in a little to see the HUD display since the reflection isn't clear to see with a phone camera.

Like I mentioned before, the controls of the ES head unit and hud is very inconsistent. When I left home, the gps map shows on the HUD and also on the screen. I switched the screen to Youtube music and the HUD remained showing the gps.

Later when I switched the main screen to the Lexus menu to adjust the radio sound and went back to Apple carplay, gps the map changed. It no longer displayed the map on the mainscreen with a highlighted path to follow. The HUD then only displayed a red pin and a distance left to my destination. It was very frustrating trying to get the HUD directions back I was never able to do it again.

I canceled my current trip and started a new one and the gps HUD is no longer showing directions. I set the gps to another location and the screen displayed it but the HUD would not show it anymore. I toggled thru all the menu to see what can be done and no luck. HUD refused to show gps directions again.

As you can see from the photo above, it is possible to get gps directions on the HUD. But as for a consistent reliable control to toggle things you want, it's just not happening. Lexus did a poor job of writing the software in these cars. It's very frustrating.
I was driving the whole time and I didn't want to fiddle with the controls and get in an accident.

I'll poke around some more next time I'm driving it in a small population area.

OK, thanks for the effort. If it's flaky, it not worth using. And I use Android Auto and Google Maps exclusively. -- So that does not seem to be available.
