Oil Dipstick
Sorry if I sound like an idiot. Been changing oil myself over 30 years but having issues reading this dipstick…. I replace exactly 5.7 Qt on my v6 3.5, and it’s hard to read the dipstick level (maybe because it’s so thin) but even with exactly 5.7 quarts replaced, the oil level seems to be much, much higher than the top dot on the dipstick, even after turning off the engine for 30 mins to let it settle on level ground. I’m thinking the oil on the side of the tube is rubbing against the dipstick?
anyone have these issues or am I weird?
thanks!

I find that even after the oil pan is drained some remains. I hardly ever refill my crankcase with the full amount called for because of this. So if you're pouring in exactly 5.7 qts. you may be over filling it. Additionally, I find it very difficult to read the oil level after a change because it's so clean. I have to tilt it towards the sun to get an accurate read. Not sure if I'm answering your question but hope it helps.

I wouldn't recommend overfilling of course, but as I've told people for years, engines/cars are a very violent place. Oil is constantly sloshing around like a swimming pool during an earth quake. So 5.8 vs 5.7 quarts, the car really won't care. Of course try to get it accurate. I just eyeball my A25 changes and leave what I perceive to be excess in the new oil jug after pouring. Feel terrible to waste it.
In the old BMW days, we used to overfill our crankcase on purpose, by 1 to 2.5 quarts. Mostly for spirited/track driving due to the design of the oil pan. Out of curiosity I had the oil pan dropped and decided to see how much the level actually rose in the pan when overfilling by 2 quarts. It was almost imperceptible. Likely getting into your car will make the oil slosh more than that!
So I think people overthink this. Get it close, if not exact and you'll be fine. In fact my 1st ESh from the factory was GROSSLY overfilled. The oil level was WAY over the top dot. Checked, wiped, and re-checked too! Also tried checking immediately after shut off to see the lowest possible level. Still above the line.
