It's something I wonder since that's the only explanation for the ES300h having a significantly better coefficient of drag vs. the ES350, however when I peer into the grill of the ES, I do not see active shutters. I looked at parts diagrams and I don't see them either. I've looked online and haven't seen anything on it for the 7ES. Then further, if it did have it, why wouldn't they put them on the ES350 if they make that big of a difference? My gut feeling is it's not on the 7ES. Maybe someone can confirm.

Unlikely. I haven’t heard or read anything that would suggest the presence of such shutters. Seems like that would be an option for more expensive cars than the ES.

More likely it's due to the spoiler that's standard on the hybrid but not other models.

Interesting. I stand corrected. I cannot find anything that suggests the Camry hybrid has them, but starting in 2016 the Prius does. Still couldn’t find anything in my quick search that suggested the ES has such a feature.

I've seen that theory but I have my doubts for such a small part. 0.29 to 0.26 is quite significant. Something you'd see in a generation gap, more than a tacked on spoiler. Usually stuff on the leading edge of the car (front) will cause that much of a reduction.

The other two areas I would suspect is possibly underbody paneling and/or the active aero is really hidden. I haven't dove that deep into it though.

It's a somewhat common complaint on Camry forums that the 18+ Camry shows active shutter error messages on the dash, requiring a software reset. maybe good we don't have them..

I'd agree. That's a really big disparity, and historically most Japanese-sedan spoilers are there as a styling cue and not for real aero improvement. In fact, even the cars with functional decklid spoilers don't usually have them to reduce drag. Mostly they're meant to create downforce to keep the rear end from getting loose when cornering at extra-legal speeds — and the ES is a car not really meant to be used that way. I'd agree with CT and put my money on different underbody panels.

Ridiculous option - what happens if they get stuck closed?

You won't need any active grill parts soon... Electric motors don't require cooling or antifreeze... I have a 2019 UL 350 and my grille don't move... Agree with Mike, ridiculous...

Yep lots will change when and if electric takes over but it's still going to take time. ICE will stick around for a bit

There’s a flap that opens and closes depending on engine temperature. All the cars with 4th generation hybrid system have them.

Oh god not this again... I've had two Model S's. Modern BEV / Tesla have coolant, radiators, brake fluid, OIL FILTERS, gear box fluid, cabin air filters, "water" pumps, etc. EV motors certainly do have cooling and coolant, don't be fooled.

Literally the only thing BEVs don't have are engine & transmission oil changes. But there are oil filters on the drive unit and gear oil - I think it's actually transmission fluid in there.

The Ford Mach-E has active grill shutters on the bottom of the front bumper, look it up....

Anyway getting derailed, let's stay on topic...
