Default Squeaky Steering Wheel

I took my 2019 ES 350 at 28,500 miles to my Lexus Dealer to replace the oil, break fluid, and engine air filter. I got in my car to drive home and noticed a pronounced squeaking sound when I turned the steering wheel in either direction. I immediately turned around and drove back to the dealer. They said they will look at it and gave me back the loaner.

What would cause a squeaky steering wheel? What could they have done during service to cause that? The squeak wasn't there when I brought it in.

It may be the dry slip ring, dry ball joint...

Thanks. Is that something that could have been triggered/damaged while doing service? Or is it just a coincidence that it happened to wear out at that particular time?

I just posted this, along with a video not long ago, same thing. Someone suggested a worn clock spring. I later sent the video to a friend who is a Lexus Tech and he said the same thing. I'm planning on taking it in soon, as my CPO warranty runs out next month.

EDIT: Here's the post https://www.clublexus.com/forums/es-...el-squeak.html

Yes, that's the sound. Just got a call from the service manager. He said they lubricated the steering boot, specifically the lower dust boot, and now my car is good to go. I'll pick it up this afternoon.

Interesting! I'm anxious to hear if that does the trick.
Now excuse me while I go look at the dust boots of my steering wheel...

If you search "Lexus squeaky steering wheel" on YouTube, you'll find quite a few videos showing the problem and the solution. The only question is which lubricant to use.

So I was under the impression the sound was coming directly from behind the steering wheel, but all the videos I'm finding show the source of the noise coming from down on the floor behind the brake pedal. Do you know which area was the source for yours?

I agree that it sounds like it's coming from up near the steering wheel even though the fix is down near the pedals. The sound probably travels up the rod that connects the two assemblies.
