CarPlay question

I decided to use CarPlay in my other car (Chevrolet) to avoid traffic with Waze so I set it up last weekend.

The next time I got in my ES 350 it automatically switched me to CarPlay. I could toggle back to the Lexus navigation. I did some research and found on Apple’s website that you can go into the settings on your iPhone, go into CarPlay, and you will see the cars using it. Then it said to turn it off in the car you aren’t driving, so I shut it off in my Chevrolet, and the next time I started my ES 350 CarPlay wouldn’t play my music or sync up with my iPhone through Bluetooth. CarPlay was on under my Lexus in my iPhone. I had to turn it back on under my Chevrolet to get it to work.

Has anyone else had this issue?

It said it to turn it off in the car you're using...? If you've turned it off then you can't expect it to turn on again without you doing so. Maybe I'm misunderstanding but I've never turned off carplay in my frequent vehicles. The only time where I have turned off/removed a vehicle from my list is if it was a rental or it's infrequent use.

I can't toggle back and forth between CarPlay and my OEM system in my Chevrolet like we can in the ES 350. The "cure" for that in my Google search is to go to CarPlay in my iPhone, select the car, and you can switch it off for that particular vehicle. I have both my Lexus and my Chevrolet listed under CarPlay in my iPhone and when I switched it off under my Chevrolet tab it wouldn't play my music or connect with my iPhone like it usually does in my Lexus. I had to switch it back on under my Chevrolet tab.

I'm no Carplay expert, but it seems like Apple CarPlay in your Lexus is working fine. Why isn't this a Chevy problem?

Chevy has problems with CarPlay that I am trying to figure out. The main one being that you can’t toggle out of CarPlay once you have it switched on for the car. It goes into CarPlay as soon as your phone connects through Bluetooth.

The “fix” to that issue is to go into CarPlay on your iPhone. I see my Lexus and Chevrolet listed as the two vehicles that will connect to it. Each has its own individual settings. When I turn off CarPlay in the Chevrolet settings my iPhone won’t connect via Bluetooth in my Lexus. When I switch it back on under the Chevrolet on my iPhone it will connect in my Lexus. That’s why I’m asking here.

When viewing the apps in ACP connected to the Lexus there is one for "Lexus"
shown as the black with silver "arrowhead" Lexus logo that you can select to
exit ACP and return to the main Lexus screen and controls.

When connected in the Chevrolet is there a similar non-app store app shown?

Thanks. The Lexus logo is what I use when it’s in CarPlay to get back to the Lexus screen and use its navigation. I discovered yesterday that when in the Lexus screen, once my iPhone and music have automatically connected through Bluetooth, I get a message on the screen that Waze is running navigation. I never set either system to run navigation when I got this message.

In the Chevy I’ve read in another forum that I can hit the “Home” button for the display and it will take me out of CarPlay. I haven’t tried it yet because the Chevy isn’t my daily.

It still doesn’t make sense that when I shut off CarPlay on my iPhone for the Chevy that Carplay won’t work in the Lexus. Both have individual settings in the iPhone for CarPlay.

I have found for myself, with these kinds of issue, I drive directly to lexus service and show them. Almost all the time it is something I don't understand in the car. It might be a chevy problem but they should be able to help you on the Lexus end. Usually it is something that I did not know.
