Default bottom USB port not detecting USB C

I have a 2019 base and an iphone 15 pro max so that connects with USB C. The top port is able to connect any USB device perfectly fine, whether it's lightning or USB C. Lightning connects to the bottom fine but whenever I try to use any USB C device on the bottom, I always get the, "Device no response" message. I've tried other several USB C devices and different wires and have gotten the same result. Have also tried updating the car software (audio 1071, navi 1040) this weekend and been on ios 17.5.1.

It's been several months since I've had this issue but wasn't really that big of a deal since I usually use my ottocast but would just switch wires to use wired carplay (sometimes watch videos with car speakers). But since I'm planning to drive this to the ground, it would be nice to make sure everything works.

I have an appointment to bring my car into the dealership in 2 weeks and still within the window of my CPO warranty so this should be covered...right?

anyone else experience this?

The way the car USB type A ports work is either in front car can be used for data but only 1 at a time for data and since there are 2 means there is a hub. The USB C device even though converts to type A does not like hubs and has to work from the main input. Nothing wrong with the car.

Interesting. Just to clarify that when I'm plugging in the USB C into the bottom port and getting the message, I don't have anything plugged into the top port.

If it's acting as a hub, wouldn't each port be equivalent to receive the data if only one is being utilized at a time? Unless, for USB C, the top port acts as the primary? (disregard my n00b savy choice of words)

In your testing have you taken into account the following from the 2019 Lexus ES 350, ES 300H Navigation and Multimedia Owner’s Manual (page 117):
When an Apple CarPlay connection is established, the other USB port can be used only for device battery charger.
So, after start up of the multimedia system if you’ve first used the top USB port to establish an Apple CarPlay connection the bottom USB port will be fixed as an USB charging only port until the system is restarted. (I don’t know whether the clearing of the USB ports’ usage capabilities requires a vehicle restart or just a multimedia system restart.)

The top USB port must be the primary within the hub which it looks like certain devices require. It's possible the conversion from C to A is the reason it requires a primary connection. Device I use only works in top also. I do remember in past years when using USB hub that if a device didn't work in a port to move it to different one to make work.
