Default 8 speed transmission.

Seems to be a fair bit of negative/bad information out there discussing the 7 Gen transmission. Is there any truth to this? Thanks.

There are many, many threads regarding the pros and cons of the 8 speed... Some like it some don't... If you do a search you can read them all... Here's one...

Cool Hops Around

It tends to gear search at lower speeds. Computers trying to give you best MPG. It doesn't really bother me but not a smooth as the 6 speed. I wouldn't let it stop you from buying one.

2024 ES 350
thanks. I’m on the fence. Either a 2018 with a smooth transmission. Or a 2019 that looks a lot better.

I owned a 2013 with the 6 speed tranny. This transmission was as smooth as a baby's azz. No rough upshifts or downshifts. The 8 speed does what YY stated, it searches for gears when slowing down and then accelerating. I'd still go with the 2019 for all the safety features.

I've been driving a '24 ES350 for about 2 months mostly non-highway. I have noticed more shift points than I was used to relative to my '99 Avalon, which is to be expected with an 8 speed vs 4 speed tranny. Especially from a dead stop I notice lots of quick upshifts.

I have not had any erratic shifting yet but have been gentle during the break in phase. I have yet to experience any harsh downshifts or odd behavior when accelerating from a rolling stop.

My '22 es350 seems to do it most in normal mode. Like it can't decide what gear to be in between 0-15mph. I spend like 99% of the time in sport or eco now because those are smoothest.

I'll have to try the different modes and see If I can feel the difference. 2024 ES 350
I noticed it mostly on hills (up and down) at slow speeds 25 mph or less.

I will have e to drive one. Do a long under 15 mph cruise. Which is where people say it’s jerking.

See how it behaves as you slow down to a complete stop. That's my worst experience.
