I've read in several articles that trans with large number of gears, 8-10, will often search at low speeds and light throttle. Not just Lexus/Toyota. No, it doesn't feel right. But the trans are set up for good fuel economy and acceleration to highway speeds. Apparently it's an engineering challenge to have both slow, gentle and high speed quick performance at the same time. They are programmed to learn your driving style and smooth out after a while. Disconnect the battery and it needs to relearn. A bit of a silver lining. Frustrating none the less.

Before I bought my 2023 new, I test drove a couple of 2019's. Both exhibited a droning sound before coming to a stop (through second and first gears). One of many reasons I went with a 2023

Droning sound? The first I've heard of this on the ES. Lots of talk on the RX 4Gen forum.

Droning sound? That's news to me as well. My 2013 Avalon Limited V6 had a noticeable downshift when coming to a stop. Said it would in the manual. It smoothed out over time. I have felt my 2024 V6 8 speed do it as well but I think I was the only one that noticed as the driver. Really not that big of a deal.

You get used to it. I ignore after five years.
