As a longtime Lexus owner, I've owned a 2000 RX300, then a 2001 LS430, enjoying it so much that I bought a second LS430 (2005 Modern Luxury) and now I've taken delivery of a 2019 ES 300H Premium in Caviar. The car has 24,000 on it and about the only option it wasn't spec'd with was the Mark Levinson audio. It was L/certified so it came with the 2 years of unlimited mileage warranty, which I bumped to 4 years.
I'm amazed at the fuel economy the 300H gets. This is going to serve as a replacement for my 2015 Chevrolet Volt, which has been a great car, but it was time for a change.
I commute about 160 miles a day, so good fuel economy was paramount. Since the LS is primarily my wife's car this will be my new daily..
Congrats on the new ride. Curious, what made you jump from EV to Hybrid? Do you feel it was a jump backwards? (Not saying it is, just curious of your thoughts)
I’ll be interested to see how you like the ES compared to the LS430 after the honeymoon period is over. I had a 430 years ago and still miss it, my 2023 ES300h is great but not as isolating as the LS was.
I could drive 5 hours in the LS and feel fresh after, the ES is similar but not as good in that regard.

my primary purpose in buying the Volt was due to my daily commute. I was driving my '01 LS430 and it was killing me in fuel costs. I was spending on average 400 a month on fuel in 2018, prior to selling the '01 and purchasing the Volt.
The Volt was newer, more fuel efficient and I had a car with a warranty, which made me feel better about the commute.
The Volt has almost 170K on it now, but it still runs like new. I haven't lost much in EV range and the car is super clean and I no doubt could drive it another 100K. However, I've had a few positive changes with income as of late, so I figured it was time to upgrade.
I looked at a few EVs, (Ioniq 5, Mach-E, Model 3) but I'm just not ready to make that commitment. There is a fair amount of range loss in the winter, and the last thing I wanted to be faced with was having to potentially stop and charge the car on my way home.
So, my next thought was getting into a Toyota Hybrid product, or more to the point, back into a Lexus Hybrid product, which left me with the only obvious choice.
Isn't the Volt a plug in hybrid? I don't believe it is 100% EV.
Yes, the Volt is a PHEV. It has a 17KWh battery which provides approx. 45 miles of range and the gas engine (generator) provides an additional 400 miles of range.
Absolutely bullet proof drive train.

Interesting observation. I live in Milwaukee and the car was actually purchased in Minneapolis. I then drove the 5 hours back home to Milwaukee. The car is quite comfortable, but I would agree, it's not as isolating as the LS. Some cool technology in the ES but the ride in the LS is nearly impossible to beat.
