My guess is that is didn't come from the factory with that misalignment and popping sound. Since the car was purchased used, there are a number of ways that it could have gotten that way -- too many to speculate. I imagine that a body shop would be able to fix that rather easily.
I get the occasional minor misalignment can happen and most people don't notice except for car people. However the popping sound when a trunk is open is noticeable. That is unacceptable. Maybe the QC guy fell asleep at the wheel. I am more inclined to believe the car got rear ended and fixed out of pocket.
Super easy to tell. Check for bolt marks on the tail lights.
