Misaligned trunk lid

My guess is that is didn't come from the factory with that misalignment and popping sound. Since the car was purchased used, there are a number of ways that it could have gotten that way -- too many to speculate. I imagine that a body shop would be able to fix that rather easily.

You got me checking again. It is about 4mm-5mm off. I guess most people won't be bothered with it.

Remove the hinge plastic cover and check if the bolts have marks on them.

I would get it fixed on account of the noise.

Super easy to tell. Check for bolt marks on the tail lights.
