If I recall, Sanibel and Marco Island as well... Both areas devastated I think... Wish the best for our fellow members... We just looked at property in Sarasota. Be a while now if ever...
I wasn't in the direct path of the storm yet we had multiple tornados destroy some communities in my area. I can only imagine how it must've felt for those in the direct path...

Sanibel devastated especially on the east end of the island which took the worst surge. We own on the west and hoping for the best (I'm a poet and I don't even know it.
That 15 foot storm surge was very scary to watch. and i don't really scare easily! the streets literally got taken over by the actual ocean. i hope there weren't very many people or pets remaining when that water came in =(

Supposedly 200 folks stayed on Sanibel and many were calling for rescue during the surge and couldn't be helped.
My granddaughter is doing an internship at Disney World and had an alligator on her apartment street in Orlando...
That's crazy!

I know we have at least one member from SWFL (Lee) and hoping he is safe.
Thanks for the very kind thought. Mike, you’re the first person I thought of when I read about the damage at Sanibel. I hope your friends down there are safe after this terrible storm. we actually flew out of PB on September 16 and are currently traveling to Australia on a cruise. We pass over the equator today. Even though I was able to get Internet, I could not connect to the forum to see if you were okay. Back in FL on Oct 30th.

Good to hear from you. I'm in NJ but our place on Sanibel is pretty torn apart. Condo assn assessing things but we love it there and are ready to rebuild even if insurance comes up short. Enjoy the rest of your trip. I suspect it will take roughly 2 years or so before Sanibel/Captiva in particular can recover from this. The entire causeway needs to be rebuilt so they are cut off from the mainland for now.
