i'm sure you know many new cars omit the spare, including above the ES in some markets.
With modern tires, my experience is the opposite - without a spare tire it would have usually required a tow job to a service place for a new tire replacement. Perhaps I'm just cursed when it comes to tire deflation events but whatever road hazard caused the tire deflation to occur for me usually also takes out the tire to such a degree that nothing is going to get the tire in a runnable state.
As to some new cars omitting the spare, my hard fast rule is no spare tire no sale. That also applies to rental cars - no spare; no rent.

Hmm... In case it isn't obvious, you do know you can remove the spare tire yourself to free up the space for your desired more stuff.
