Acoustic glass?
Hi all,
I picked up my 2020 ES350 F Sport about a month ago and I love it so far. Sadly I haven’t been able to drive it much with the outbreak. I’ve only got 260 miles on it so far. That said, I did notice on a few short freeway jaunts that while the car is very quiet overall, with the music off the wind is definitely the dominant source of any noise. It’s muted but even at 60 to 65mph I can hear the variation in the wind rushing past. I was surprised when I rolled down the front windows that they don’t appear to be acoustic (usually they have a ridge between two thinner panes and they usually say acoustic on the stamp with the glass manufacturers info). I couldn’t find the stamp on the windshield for the glass manufacturer so I’m not sure if that’s acoustic either.
Do any ES’ in this gen come with acoustic glass? I couldn’t find anything on it and thought maybe they do it on the ultra lux. I was a little disappointed with the lack of it, but I suppose out of road, wind, or engine noise if you dampen one, another will become dominant so perhaps acoustic glass would have created an undesirable affect.
Thoughts? Anyone else feel like the wind noise is the most audible noise source at speeds 60 and above?

There were previous posts on this subject and IIRC the owner took their car in for inspection of the issue. Apparently a piece of molding was either placed incorrectly or missing from the assembly line. Ultimately the wind noise was reduced or eliminated. I have an UL 2019 350 and also experience wind noise at speed. I don't know if the glass on my car is acoustic or not.
If you do a search you can find the older posts regarding this issue.

In answer to your question, I have a Luxury model and it has acoustic glass on the front windows. It is very obvious if you look at the edge, as you see two panes sandwiched together. I want to believe it helps dampen the wind noise a little bit, but I don't believe it is any quieter at highway speeds than my previous 2015 ES. For the record, my previous ES was a base model with the Premium package, so it didn't have the acoustic front windows.

Tire noise, I agree with. Replace your crappy OEM's and get a decent tire. I did on my 6th gen ES at 17k miles. Made a world of difference. Engine noise? That should not be an issue in the ES. Wind noise is a real issue, which the acoustic glass greatly reduces.
How do you know what kind of tires I have? Most wind noise comes from windshield and seams around the body,
I've had 2013 ES and a 2017 ES, one with accoustic glass side windows and the other without it. I have experienced absolutely no difference in wind noise between the two. With both, there is virtually no wind noise at all, even at higher highway speeds.
With both cars, there is, at cruising speeds, only very minimal engine noise that enters the cabin. The only noise difference that I've seen between the two cars is tire noise. Both cars had the Michelin tires, which most here seem to prefer. But the 2013 ES had the 17" wheels, and the 2017 ES has the 18" wheels and lower profile tires. On smooth pavement, I probably don't notice much difference, but on any pavement that is not perfectly smooth, more road/tire noise clearly comes from the lower profile tires.

I have a F Sport. Its window has AGC LamiSafe mark. Check the link below. I believe it’s acoustic https://www.agc-automotive.com/en/ou...lass-lamisafe/

I should revise my comment on wind noise. As Lesz stated, it should be minimal on a Lexus. The noise these acoustic side windows work best at mitigating is ambient noise, like traffic around you.
