Using Android Phone WITHOUT Android Auto (2019 ES 350)
One of my phone is up for upgrade and I am changing to apple from android. My car doesn't have the builtin gps so will be more beneficial for me to have the carplay so that I can use the gps on the car screen. Also the ability to use third party apps like whatsapp for calls and messaging sounds cool too. Will see how it goes

I'm disappointed to read your comment about the Lexus navigation system. Would you give us an idea of what the problems are. I use Waze and Google Maps all the time and would hate to make a move backward in changing to the navigation system in the 2019 ES 350 I am contemplating buying.
Thanks in advance.

I've had some more experience since the above thread. In one case, the Lexus navigation said there were 24 minutes to my destination. I knew the route was not optimal, so I took a different turn. When the navigation recalculated, it said there were 20 minutes to the destination. WTF? Then why did it take me the long way?
In another situation, I was on my way to a place that has 3 locations in town. I asked it to find the (store name) in Parma, OH. It told me it couldn't find it. So I asked it to find the store name and didn't specify the city. It found 2 locations 180 miles away. So I called destination assist and they set the destination for me. What a freakin' joke!
My 2004 Lexus ES DVD-based navigation didn't have either of the above 2 problems. Pitiful!
I would take that with a bit of suspicion. For FWIW, Lexus Spain has an announcement on their site stating Android Auto upgrade for MY'19 ES built after October 2018. December 2019 update available for non-nav vehicles and April 2020 for nav vehicles.

Staying hopeful there may be a retro-fit software update to look forward to.

Do you leave your iPhone on all the time? If so, doesn't the battery run out when you don't drive your car for more than a day or so?
I've been told by people at a Lexus dealer that the 2019 ES will be upgraded to have Android Auto. The 2020 ES is getting Android Auto and it has the same infotainment hardware as the 2019 ES so there is no technical limitations that would prevent Android Auto from working on a 2019 ES. If Lexus doesn't update the 2019 to have Android Auto it's just Lexus trying to get you to buy a 2020.

You'll know that AA will be installed when Lexus decides to announce it officially. Rumors, sales persons, service writers, internet hacks, know as much about this issue as our members on this forum... If Lexus Espana announced it weeks ago, where is Lexus U.S.A.? With so many owners waiting with great anticipation, IMO this is poor on Lexus' part...
Some can wait and some can't. for who can't wait you might be interesting on this

When the car has been sitting for a while (more than a day or so) and the battery drains, I get a low battery image in CarPlay when I start the car. That only lasts for a couple of minutes or so until it charges up enough to power CarPlay. That's a minor annoyance, but I'm also concerned that it might not be good the long term health of the battery. Lately I've been removing the iPhone from the car when I know I'm not going to be driving it for a while.
My battery drains completely after a day or so when left in lock mode (screen turned off) regardless of whether or not it's plugged in to my car. My iPhone is a refurbished 6s, but the battery health in Settings says it's 90%. Also, I've tried to adjust all the settings to conserve the battery.

Do you think it's bad for the battery if I just let it run down and wait a little for it to start back up?
Also, how much down time in lock mode do you think I could expect from a new iPhone or a new battery?
Thanks for the tips. I think the simplest and most effective thing to do is to just turn the phone off when I leave the car for more than a day.

Early this year I sold my iPhone 6 plus which I wasn't using much and it would only last about 48 hours in standby mode before turning off. The battery takes a heavy toll after all those years of recharging.

No, that shouldn't be an issue. A quick search on google states the standby time for a new iPhone 6s is up to 9 days.

My iPhone 7 is only a few months old. I didn't drive my car Saturday and Sunday. Monday morning it was at 58%. To keep a battery at full capacity longer. Its best to keep it between 40-80%. I believe the average phone battery loses about 10-20% capacity a year but it depends on how you use it of course.
I Googled a bit and discovered that Apple stores will replace an iPhone 6s battery for $49. If you make an appointment, they'll do it while you wait.
