Proximity sensor
I have an es300h, 2019, and after about 900 miles I heard this loud whining/whirring sound. I took it in your lexus and they told me it was a proximity sensor and designed to make noise to warn pedestrians when traveling at a low speed. What I dont understand is why I never heard it until I almost had a 1000 miles on the vehicle? I never heard it when the dealer drove it out of the showroom. Calling BS.
On the Lexus web site they explain it with this paragraph:
VEHICLE PROXIMITY NOTIFICATION SYSTEM19*
To help notify pedestrians and cyclists of your approach when moving at low speeds or in EV mode,20* this system emits a tone from a speaker mounted near the front bumper.
Couple of things off the top of my head...
Has it happened again or just a one time thing? Try recording the audio with your phone? Try to trigger the prox senser(have your significant other stand in its path lol) on purpose and compare the 2 sounds?

In EV mode, the inverter up front can make a high pitched buzzing and the electric motors also have a low pitched sound, like a subway car motor.
Why not stand outside and have someone else drive by in the car?
