The 2GR-FXE wasn’t ever used in the ES350. Did you mean the 2GR-FKS? That was though.

Plastic parts are a way of life now in the auto industry. I don’t know that Lexus is really any better or worse that other brands in this regard.

What breakage issues due to heat cycling and age have there been with the older 7th gen ES350's and other Lexus and Toyota models using the 2GR FKS that have accumulated miles over the years?
If you know
Thanks

I had an issue with the PCV intake on the intake elbow this weekend. Unlatched the airbox cover to change my air filter for the 30K service and it snapped clear off. Had to use a screw to remove it from the 1/4 hose, and needle nose to remove the it from the intake elbow. It's only 2 years old but I guess the heat was enough to make the plastic extremely brittle.

Part was only $4 at my local Toyota dealer, but I'll be looking to replace it with a brass part just to avoid this in the future.

Aside from the obvious risk of heat causing a polymer degradation and cracking, there is the issue of differing coefficient of thermal expansion between metals and plastics. This will make maintaining a good seal difficult…especially with the current tendency to use cheap, “gasket in a tube”.
