Gas door (ES250)
Hi all,
Question/suggestion, please;
The gas door doesnt have a stop to hold the door open while fueling. The slightest breeze will cause it to close against the fuel nozzle handle.
Is this normal/something that you guys see on your vehicle as well?
I can make a video, if needed.
Thank you

I'm not sure if I'm misunderstanding but that's how gas doors are..? Once opened, the door can swing freely. You press the gas button from inside the car, which will make the gas door to pop open. You open the door, unscrew the cap and rest it on the little groove thing on the back of the door. If it's opened all the way, I think it's on an angle so gravity has it leaning on the other side. Don't think I've ever had a gust of wind strong enough to blow the door back though
From what I remember when i last used the gas door two years ago, I recall it does tend to sway in the breeze. Do you secure the gas cap to the gas door before refueling? that can help add some weight to it. Or maybe depending on where the door makes contact when it swings closed, you can add some foam tape there so it doesn't rattle against whatever its closing on (in your case I'm guessing the fuel pump handle?) can you post a pic of your particular issue?
Thank you both for responding and your time.
Please watch the video that i attached.
Since I’m in Canada and it's winter with strong winds, whenever I’m at a gas station filling up, the wind closes the door / door hit the nozzle.
Thanks

Nope, there's no stop or anything to prevent the gas door from it to be closed. Would be great if it did, or at least have the hinge provide more resistance, but all the cars I've ever owned never had any sort of stop mechanism in place so am used to it.

I had similar issue and squeezed the hinges with pliers (I put soft microfibre cloth to not damage the paint), check the black arrows.

One more thing, do you have the clip (red arrow)?

So, what i am seeing is actually 'normal' ? Something you guys see on your ES's as well?

This is something that definitely annoys me as well. I tend to open the door and remove the gas cap before turning around and picking up the nozzle...doing this will sometimes cause the door to close on itself and bounce the cap against the car. Never had a car that had a fuel door that could be blown closed by the slightest breeze.
So, i am not the only one seeing this.
Wonder if the same thing is on newer models '24/'25 ?
Mine is '21 ( new to me vehicle ).
I never as well had something like this on any other vehicles that i owned.

The red arrow is pointing at the black spring that partially opens the gas door when the dash button is pushed, so it should be on all cars.
I have a 2024 ES350 and my gas door will close with a slight breeze or if the car is not level. Annoying, but I am used to it. I do hang the cap in the provided bracket on the inside of the gas door, so there is no worry about paint damage when the door swings partially shut.
