Default HUD system abnormalities

I have a Lexus ES 350 ,Ultra Lux and have seen unusual white shapes and sizes projected on to the windshield..These projections are distracting and may cause an accident some day. Turning off the system is no help. You would have to cover up the projection box for this to go away .I noticed it 2 months into new car ownership.but very intermittant .The detailes gathered during the past 6 months are: has to be a clear ,no overcast day, driving easterly or westerly, and between 11am and 5pm. Never noticed at night.Sometimes noticed turning a corner.I have filed a warranty claim with my dealership in central indiana, and they have actually seen the issue in person.I am certain I am not the only one out there with this problem.I assume they are scratching there heads at the dealership ,or not . Naturally they say "we have never heard of that",just like they never heard of soybeen materials in these cars attracting rodents.

Sounds like the sun projecting off of the screen. Mine will get a white strip on my right side if sun is at the right angle. I wear glasses and I use non polarized sunglasses clip ON's and don't see the white line when I wear them.

My 2024 ES350 and my previous Camry and Avalon had the HUD. I seldom need to wear sunglasses while driving but did notice that I could not see the HUD while wearing my polarized prescription sunglasses. I ordered a pair without the polarized lenses and can see the HUD while wearing them. So, I have been driving cars with the HUD since 2018 and cannot recall ever noticing a reflection of the sun in the HUD display. It might have happened and simply did not bother me. I guess I will watch for it now. If the sun is causing it, it would require a particular and probably unusual and temporary combination of weather, time (sun position) and direction of travel. I wonder if the HUD display screen has a non-reflective coating to mitigate such a reflection onto the windshield. My computer monitors seem to have a non-reflective finish, but my phone and tablet do not.

This or something like this was discussed some time ago in the HUD Issue-2022 ES UL thread. In that thread's post #11 mikemu30 includes a link to a photo of a HUD related windshield artifact (the image at the post's referenced link can be very slow to load) and in post #22 mattsrs includes photos of bright sunlight hitting inside the HUD housing well and of the "white" reflection artifact on the windshield.

Basically, when your ES and a bright sun are orientated in certain orientation, you can get bright light reflections from dash interior components onto the windshield at such an incident angle onto the windshield so that at least some of the reflected light appears in your vision similarly to the way the HUD reflects light off of the windshield so the HUD projected display appears in your vision.

I get the line on the windscreen and I have HUD turned off... I don't use it. Only happens when a sunny day and I just ignore it. Been there since new in 2019...
