What exactly did @VeroCarGuy say that was flawed or misleading? I'm not trying to be contentious but I think he spent a lot of time bringing thoughtful insight to the table on this topic. It's ok if someone disagrees with another member and there is no shame in being wrong.

Evidence was then presented by @UltraLux22 from a reputable source (Lexus GM) who claims to have performed a national search.

Thanks for the assist, though!
For those whom may not know, “beautifully flawed” is a euphemism for “horse 💩”. 😁

Thank you so much for your informative post, UltraLux.

Its valuable data is the reason we have an information-sharing forum, and it is the best antidote for the all-too-common combination of unresearched hip shots and ugly personal insults that are the unfortunate reason we need moderators.

Let's keep things polite and mature folks, or do not post. You can disagree without the personal commentary.

And back to my latest inquiry:

With this information it should lead me to negotiating price on a vehicle not on the dealer lot, i.e. using one of the method of trade or allocation. The one dealer wants me to pay full price plus $900 dealer fee if he can get me "close" to a vehicle I actually want. My view is that the dealer has ZERO chance to sell me one of his vehicles on his lot. Absolutely zero. So to increase his chances of selling me a vehicle I am willing to communicate (and provide a deposit if necessary) what I want so he can get it on his lot. Only at that point am I willing to buy it. So it does not cost him extra to either trade or modify an allocation (neither of which will be anywhere close to exactly what I want, it will have lots of options I DO NOT WANT). Seems to me that I should have at least as much, if not more, negotiating position because I am assuring the dealer of a sale. By selling quickly to me it also increases their statistics for the dealership.

Thoughts?

In my experience with multiple brands (including Lexus) dealers are always more willing to negotiate on cars they have on their lots than one that is ordered or dealer traded for. I am not sure why this is, but it has been my experience.

Those vehicles sitting on the dealer’s lot is costing them interest payments. That’s their motivation to move them.

I don't have all the latest inventory information, but I absolutely agree with you. The scarcest ES's are the hybrid ES 300h's, named by Car Edge as the #10 scarcest car this month. The gas-engine cars are in much more abundant supply and have been for a couple of years, except for some Ultra Luxurys. In my humble personal opinion, the dealer's stance is an out-and-out gouge and a dare to shop elsewhere, and I agree that I definitely would.
