Our 12.3 inch model will do DVD but I have never tried it per manual "For safety reasons, the DVD video
discs can only be viewed when the
following conditions are met:
(a) The vehicle is completely
stopped.
(b) The engine switch <power
switch> is in ACCESSORY or
IGNITION ON mode <ON mode>.
(c) The parking brake is applied.
While driving in DVD video mode,
only the DVD’s audio can be heard.
The playback condition of some
DVD discs may be determined by
the DVD software producer. This
DVD player plays a disc as the software
producer intended. As such,
some functions may not work properly.
Be sure to read the instruction
manual that comes with the individual
DVD disc. (P.153)"
My memory is too weakened to remember that fine point! Heck, we’re taking 55 years ago, when we were still carrying on in the back seat at the drive-ins!

Yep I think it went something like this - LPs - 8tracks - cassettes - CDs - MP3s - FLAC (I just discovered this one) - and right back to LPs
Question: for us who have 19-22 ES that have the CD player, can we put a DVD into the slot and play it, I always wondering LOL
I bet gen Z folks here don't know what a mp3 file or a CD player is
I've played DVDs in my '22 ML setup. They work like the manual says -- the video goes off, and it's audio only, when in motion. But my menu does not have the setting for aspect ratio that the manual mentions.

8 tracks came after in car record player, then cassettes, then cd & mp3 and ipod etc. 8 tracks were terrible for running slow or fast as they would get a silvery film on back of tape and had to constantly clean the rubber in the player.
Drive-ins still exist you know. IIRC, there's still one movie drive-in still operating. In the restaurant category, there's still quite a few operating (e.g., the Sonic Drive-In chain).
Not sure if cassettes were invented after 8 tracks, but I do recall the 8 tracks being popular first, and their popularity not lasting as long.
I certainly recall 45s but didn't bother listing them as they were vinyl as well. My older sister had a collection of 45s and I used to make tracks out of them and walk all over them. She wasn't happy about it 🤣
Got a '24 RX service loaner today. Unlike my '22 ES350, it plays my USB songs in order, displays album cover art while in motion, and also allows browsing through the album list while in motion. Looks like there were some philosophy changes since they made my ES.
