Default Previous generation. 2013 thru 2018.

I’m sure many of you have owned the previous generation es350. I will be purchasing one.

Is there any trouble issues I should look for?

Is there any option that are a must when purchasing

Thanks for your time.

There's no single issue that I know of that has been common to the 6th. gen cars. Normal things such as brakes, and other maintenance items. I speak of the ES 350 - not the ES 300 as I didn't own one. The V6 engine is bulletproof, the 6 speed tranny was fabulous - better than the 8 speed in gen 7. Fit and finish good on the Japanese and American made cars. I had an early 2013 that I bought in September of 2012. I only went back to the dealer for a recall and free maintenance. The later MY cars have the additional safety features that I got in my 2019.
They are very much worth having. GOOD LUCK with your purchase...

In case you aren't aware of it, the previous generation ESs used 3G cellular networking for the various connected services. Since all the 3G networks have been shut down, the previous generation's connected services will never work again. See Lexus support's 3G WIRELESS SERVICES UPDATE for the details.

Looked these up. It's just like ESh said. In the Consumer Reports surveys, their reliability in every model year is a sea of reassuring green — actually more perfect than the current generation, which is still pretty good.

Go for the 16+. It has the better structure.

Curious you prefer that over the current 7th GEN?

I think the old ES had a specialness/plushness about the interior and exterior polish. I like the general styling of the 7ES, but the 6ES (facelift) seemed just polished/refined if that makes sense.

don't get me wrong i'd much rather have a 7ES. i feel 7ES just lost something along the way.

Affordability and Value, I think.
If I have ~$15K budget and a mission to find the best overall Sedan (for my kid, for my friend, family, my secondary beat up car but I still a Lexus LOL, or an introductory "luxury" Lexus if I was in my 20s etc.), tell me a better choice than a good maintained well equipped ~100K mileage 2013+ Lexus ES350 Mikey ? ZERO. You could get a lower mileage slightly newer year model Corolla, Civic or Accord and Camry but why, at the end the equivalent Lexus still beat them hand down . Go up to $17K - $18K you can find a good 2015 and 2016 ES...

Great cars and hold value. I just traded my 2016 on a RC and got $30k. Dealer turned around and sold it for $33k. Paid $47 7 years ago.

I had a '17 ES300h that I drove past 200K miles. Not the V6 so my feedback on drivetrain isn't helpful. But the fit and finish as well as ride quality is great. The interior and paint held up very well during that time. The only parts I needed to replace was a downstream O2 sensor at 220K miles ($80, did it myself) and a few suspension parts such as sway bar end links.

We bought a 13 ES300h for my wife after riding in a friend's 2011 ES350 on a 3 hr road trip. Her car at the time was a 06 Volvo S80 (her second S80). While the 13 was an excellent vehicle, it did not feel as luxurious as my friend's 11. We replaced the 13 with a 19 ES300h due to newer safety features/technology, and the 19 felt more luxurious and refined than the 13. The 19 has also been an excellent vehicle, that we are planning to keep for many years.

Wow - that seems crazy. I paid about $48K for my 2019 nearly five years ago.

Yep, 13-15 were garbage. I heard the 16+ was much better, or maybe it was 17. Either way, best to avoid 13-15.

You're right. The older ES was more about smooth, quiet luxury. These days, Lexus cares about building a car that can corner as fast as possible with cheaper build quality. I think the 4th gen was the most luxurious ES.

Yep, these were much better than the first half of the generation.

Had a 2017 ES 300 h and before that a 2013 and zero problems with either. J D Power ranks Lexus #1 in dependabilty 23 out of 28 years. Their survey looks at three year old vehicles. So for my old 2017 that would be the 2020 study. Lexus #1, the ES # 1 in the premium compact category and the 2017 ES was the most reliable vehicle ever surveyed in their 31 year history. Any year and you will be fine. Log in to the Lexus owners site free to register and enter a VIN # and it will tell you everything to do with service about that vehicle that was done at a Lexus or Toyota dealer. Any problems just give me the VIN # and I will look it up.
