Default Fuel Low Warning

So I get the fuel low warning the other day and I’m like 3 miles from my preferred gas station so no issues.

I decide to see how many miles I have left using the Range function but it seems that gets totally disabled.

It looked like Fuel Low comes on at the 1/8 mark but I have no idea what the remaining range was.

On page 364 of the 2021 Lexus ES250/ES350 Owner's Manual, the fuel warning light illuminating:

2WD models: Indicates that remaining fuel is approximately 2.4 gal. (9 L, 2.0 Imp.gal.) or less
Given the fuel tank capacity is 16 gal., the fuel warning light illuminates when there's approximately 15% of the fuel remaining in the tank. (Close enough to the fuel gauge's 1/8 mark to not quibble about.)

I don't know how much of that remaining 2.4 gal. can be used before the fuel level falls below the in tank fuel pump's intake, However, the remaining range is going to depend upon driving conditions fuel consumption. If you have the (instantaneous) current fuel consumption displayed on one of the Multi Information Display (MID) "Drive information" screens, you can get a rough estimate of the range remaining.

Does that mean you can see remaining range?

There is a return button on the steering wheel to get out from "Low Fuel" screen back to "remaining range" screen.

On mine after the range went to 0 a low fuel message came on and no range numbers were there anywhere to be found. I got the 6 miles from the odometer.

RIght - what I have done on my 6th Gen and also 7th Gen 2023, when it goes to fuel low, hit this "return" button on steering wheel (see image), and then it will go back to the countdown. Since I have the hybrid, I usually have about 30 more miles in the range after hitting this button so I can track how close I am to zero.

long ago, I've seen range depletion test on the 2016+ Prius which shares hybrid tech with 7ES hybrid. Those tests revealed 50 additional real world miles after range reads 0. I would ball park the ES Hybrid at 40 miles since it's not as efficient as the Prius. So since the ESh gets 2x the mpg the ES350 does, give the ES350 half that @ 20 miles.

These are vague estimates. I feel it's best to be vague with these things so you don't push your luck. That's probably why car companies do the same once you're "empty." They'd rather just have you assume it's empty.

Look, it is not recommended to drive on empty, the reason is the fuel pump in the tank will get hot and also it’s not healthy for the high pressure pump to run on empty.

Most of the time I fill it up when the level drops to 1/4.

The foolishness of trying to get every last drop credited to the tankful I guess if you lease your car, it really doesn't matter.
