Default Issue with ES350 Auto Wipers

Auto Wipers was not high on my list of options, but I have come to like the convenience. They used to increase/decrease speed as the rain fall or car speed went up and down. Recently they increase speed as they should, but don't decrease or shut off as they should. Yesterday after exiting a freeway I turned the switch off then back to auto and the speed was correct again. Since I'm not familiar with the technology of how they work I'm not sure what the next step should be. Any answers out there folks?

Are you adjusting the sensitivity on the stalk?

Make sure the glass outside of the sensor is clean. Some aftermarket wipers with coatings might also affect it.

Bingo, I went back to the manual and saw the reference to the sensitivity setting. I had thought (in error) that that adjustment was for the intermittent wiper speed. Thanks Mike728!!

Mike - I want to thank you too. I've had a lot of cars with intermittent wipers and have enjoyed the rain sensing wipers on a few lately and I read the owner's manuals pretty well but I did not know this. This is something that I might have skipped in reading the manual because I know about wiper controls - right. And the fact that the first page refers to intermittent wipers using the same control as the rain sensing wipers wouldn't have helped. I don't see a lot of rain but did recently notice that the rain sensing wipers weren't working very well and adjusting the intermittent wipers didn't do much either. I made a note to ask about it at my next service. You saved me from embarrassing myself - Thank you.
