manual a/c button

Those of us that own 2013 - 2017's all know about it. There isn't any button... One must go into the climate menu to turn A/C on or off. A frequent complaint of new owners...

No issue here, I just set the temperature I want in the car and let the system do it's thing.

I have learned that if you go into the system setup and choose to not enable AC in the vehicle configuration of the menu setup of the radio...the AC will not kick on every time you turn your HVAC system on and off. But if lets say you have your system on (without the AC on) it will kick on if you switch the button that has the choice of bringing air in from the outside or thinside the cabin to "auto" this will kick the AC on. If you choose to turn off the AC, you can just take it out of auto by selecting where you want the air to come in from. The drawback to this will be that the system will automatically choose where the air will come in from but it does kick the AC on without having to go to the climate control screen of the display.

Here is a little shortcut I found to turn on the AC in a 2017 ES without using Auto AC, via hard button. With the AC off, press the AUTO button. Then press the fan speed up or down button. The Auto will shut off (the light on the button also goes off) but the AC is still on. You can confirm this from the Climate screen.

Recall that the manual A/C button permitted the compressor to be turned off
easily but also allowed the sudden engagement at inopportune times. After
a long winter of inactivity the first hot day causes the driver (or hot passenger)
to jab the button while the engine is above idle... Compressor bearings that have
no oil after 6 months are suddenly spun up to top speed. Couple years of that
treatment and the unit is fried. "These damn cars have crappy quality".
By engaging the compressor throughout the year to reduce humidity and window
fogging the oil gets circulated regularly and components last longer. "Boy, these
Lexus cars have remarkable reliability don't they?" Breakpoint makes an interesting
point, after doing the two step to disengage the A/C while driving with windows/sunroof
open, all you have to do to quickly defog windows for safety is punch the Auto button!
