Hi all,
I backed up onto the sidewalk and scraped the passenger side and front bumper against a fire hydrant. The damage looks fairly severe. I plan to take it directly to a lexus dealership to fix and was wondering what a reasonable estimate is? This is a 2013 Lexus ES 350 and I plan to pay out of pocket.
Find a used door via car-part.com you might even get lucky and find one in white. The bumper is $1000+ job depending on the shop does this dealer have their own body shop or do they farm out the work?
For kicks I looked up the price of an OEM door shell about $800 retail. This is a bare door everything from your door would have to be transferred. Do you have the laminated glass option?

If that was my car I'd have the bumper repaired (hopefully can be blended instead of a total repaint) the fender PDR'd touch up paint to the chipped parts. Replace the door.
Also the crud on the bumper is that transfer or is the paint removed and we're seeing the bumper material.

The paint was scraped off so that's the bumper material we're seeing.
Being a white/pearl painted car, bodywork can be easy to hide. That said, that door will have to be replaced. If you don't want to file a claim, look around in junkyards. If you can find one the same color in decent shape then you're in luck. If not, there's dents, and then there's gouges. Your door can't be repaired to look "great" without being stripped, and some skilled body filler (Bondo and/or fiberglass) blended into it before a re-spray of the paint. Honestly someone really good might do it at a big price, and others will advise to replace it at a big price. On a budget I'd cross my fingers and try the junkyard first.
