Default Cam position sensor issue?

Help

I changed the spark plugs on my 2009 ES 350 last weekend (120k miles) and when I was removing the right rear coil I pulled the wires right out of the connector for the cam position sensor (CPS) (Dang! should have removed cam position sensor connector first). I could not get them to go back in and hold. As I investigated, it seems like there is not a direct connection between the pin coming out the end of the connector and the wire going into the back... I checked resistance from wire to the connector pin with an ohm meter and could not get a connection... Then I checked the front side cam position sensor for continuity (that one was undamaged) and found the same thing... it made me wonder if the electrical impulse from the CPS was large and so a direct connection to the pin was not made or something... I don't really get it. Anyway I ended up splicing some thicker wires into the connector backside, and I think I got them into the connector far enough to touch the metal part inside the connector...I epoxied the wires to the connector so they would not pull out. put it all together and it seemed to start and run ok. Now today my wife is driving and she says its running very rough. I was careful to make sure i reconnected everything, hoses, wires etc... What would an intermittent or bad connection at the cam position sensor manifest as in engine operation? One other thing, there are 3 wires, red black and yellow going into the CPS sensor connector, I was not sure of their order, so I looked at the front CPS connector and wired it likewise.

Any thoughts or help would be greatly appreciated.

i had this similair issue with my 07 about two winters ago the dealership found that there had once been a repair and it was not good they replaced with a new connector that had the wire where they just had to connect the wires further away form the connector and have not had any issues the tech told me that the issue is they seem to have problems when people repair wires pulled form the connector itself and thats why they will replace with new connectors and not try and reapair when its that close
so perhaps just buy a new connector form the Dealership if that is the problem and then you can solder or splice it together further away form the plug if needed

C1201
P0300
P0171
P0174
those were the faults posted...
Engine control system malfunction
Multiple misfire detected
Bank 1 system too lean
Bank 2 system too lean
Those are the descriptions.
I ordered a new connector and will solder/splice it in. Thanks for the info, my wiring info was not very clear.

my bad...I think the wires I pulled out are for the VVT sensor, not the cam sensor.

This was the schematic that made me think cam position sensor, but I think it might be mis labeled based on other info I found.

That right there is my problem nevernu. You are the MAN! And it is the VVT sensor, even though it is monitoring cam position. The fault codes made me think it was not the actual cam position sensor which is technically in another location...
Red Black Blue... but how to figure which one on which side?

red black yellow connector is b43 and look at the plug config on p16 of ecs.pdf above to see which is 1,2,3

(its also on the color wiring diagram above lol)

nevernu can you supply info on how to take apart the connector? I noticed from the thread you referenced. I fear the part I ordered may also be wrong part...

Update:
I was going to take it all apart again to install the new connector and I noticed I had missed re-connecting an air line(below). Connected that line and runs like a champ again! So my repair must have been ok after all #relieved 😁
