Default Brakes Squeak when NOT Applied

Hello,My brakes squeak while I'm driving, but go away when I apply pressure to the brakes. Anyone have any idea why? Thanks!

I'm reading about the brake pad indicator. I can't seem to understand why the screeching occurs only when you don't have the brakes applied. The diagram on wiki shows the metal indicator but it looks like it'll only come into the contact with the rotors when you apply the breaks. Can someone please shine some light on it?https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brake_wear_indicator

once the brake pad wears out, the metal from the pad sticks out and gets in contact with ur rotors even when you don't apply the brakes, hence the annoying screeching noise that will constantly remind you that you need to change ur pads. it's a pretty simple and effective "sensor"

Do you know why the screeching stops when you do apply the brakes?

You could have bad piston seals. They may be binding and not releasing the piston fully, causing some dragging and noise as a result. Screeching stops because of the force you apply, similarly to when you apply force to a screeching hinge.
