Replacing Navigation for less than $14K
My co-worker shattered his factory Navi screen on his 2011 ES350. The dealer quotes $14,000 for just the part (!!!!!!!!) There's a lot of used ES350 Navis on ebay, but for some reason, not for a 2011 (is 2011 like a super special unit or something?)
I then hit up Crutchfield for a quick solution, but they are only showing single-DIN units AND a warning that a bracket needs to be custom fabricated.
Anybody have any ideas on the easiest way to fix his Navi?
Thanks.

you could go to a salvage auction and buy a wrecked 2011 ES 350 with navigation for that price and have all the extra parts
but seriosuly that is freaking redicuouse
at most if its a ML system maybe 4500 5000 after dealer mark up

it does not what year the car is, it's the screen that's cracked, not damage to the hardware. my screen was cracked on my 2008 ES, I searched eBay, found a screen for $300 and replaced it myself. there are a million screws you have go through just to get to the screen. I finally got it done 2 hours later and it works perfectly. save yourself the trouble and research the screens on eBay, mine is a toshiba screen.

I see the 06-09 replacement touch screens on eBay, but, again, nothing for 2010+.
Plenty of stuff for 2011 IS's.
FYI, the $14K quote came from 2 separate dealers. When I was asking one of the dealers about whether I have to worry about any special security codes or anything if I buy a used unit, he said "no codes needed, but good luck finding a used unit". There's something up with these 2010-12 ES models.
Anything else? What about aftermarket units - any good double-din kits specifically designed for the 2011 ES?

if you wanted to go aftermarket but keep the same look as oem you could go with the retrofit model herei s a link its a tad under 3k but still thats alot in my opinion http://www.ebay.com/itm/LEXUS-ES350-RADIO-GPS-DVD-NAVIGATION-NAV-RETROFIT-KIT-/251095258686?pt=GPS_Devices&hash=item3a7671963e&vxp=mtr
here is another used non factory but with a factory fit under 600 http://www.ebay.com/itm/2007-and-up-Lexus-ES350-Navigation-Display-Screen-Aftermarket-Factory-Fit-/131057604546?pt=Car_Audio_Video&hash=item1e83a457c2&vxp=mtr
if you feel cofident about doing it and or maybe if you don't want to do it yourself and im sure you can find a radio repair service that would do it for you if its just the touch screen that is broken
get a used 07-09 unit and have it taken apart for the screen then you could sell other parts left over on ebay and make some money back here one for under 900.00 http://www.ebay.com/itm/OEM-2008-LEXUS-ES350-NAVIGATION-DISPLAY-SCREEN-W-NAVIGATION-CLIMATE-CONTROLS-/271328319289?pt=Car_Audio_Video&hash=item3f2c6d9739&vxp=mtr
not sure if this is the part that you need or the part for the navigation radio assembly but i just looked up for you on sewell lexus parts its showing this part number 8612033E60 and its under 2,400 problem is that one is showing on back order
but you can search other things also
call around to junk yard go to Car-parts.com and search also
you know how many old people wreck these cars in a week i was at the salvage yard when they where waiting to tow my 07 and i saw like 40 07 and newer ES models there waiting to be picked up by bone yards

Just pulled up on Sewell's site, the GPS system sure does retail for $14k. Sewell's price is $10k with the CL discount. Thats just absurd...even if the unit is all inclusive (which it seems to be, all the way down to the wood trim under the screen) thats crazy.
I wonder if an electronics shop can remove and replace just the LCD screen? There are some replacement screens out there but they all seem to specify 07-09.
How could they have a component that costs half the price of the car new to replace?!?

OMG wow i didn't see that when i looked on Sewell yesterday
damm sure is absurd
how can they have something that is nearly that the price of the car as a component ?
easy
you know how much it would cost if you knew what you were doing and did it yourself to actually order every part of the car from Lexus and build it yourself ?
if they even sold every part
it would come to probably around 200-250k

That means if your ES is say, 5 years old...if your nav fails...the car is totaled?!?
They need to offer some sort of option to have these units remanufactured or something.

Is it denso that makes these units ?
i think its the same company that GM used for a whyll or still uses
I know that the factory navigation I had in my Cadillac Seville sls
They did not sell factory replacement parts and Denso would not service the units
the only way to get a replacement was going pay like 3000 at the dealer's hand over your old unit and the old unit plus 3000 would get you a new unit
Cheapest on ebay to buy used ones
I know damaged systems sold for good money because people need parts to use to fix them
now there are places that are authorized to fix some factory radio and navigation systems and also aftermarket units
here is a place in cleveland ohio
that is a authorized repair facility if memomory serves me correct they repair radios for GM vehicles and are authorized if they can get parts from Denso for GM parts maybe they can order something for the OP's friends navi unit
hers the link to there place
http://www.electrasound.com/electras...ileelectronics
here is one place called specmo they are located in MI
i know like all of the GM dealerships used this place to fix their Dash clusters when a cluster would go bad if they did not have someone that was a electro junky that could do it themselves they send them here to be repaired its called Specmo i used them to repair the LED's on my Dash cluster on my Caddy about 5 years ago 300 to repair was a lot cheaper than 2000 for the new cluster
They also repair factory audio radio systems maybe they can do the navigating

I don't supposed any of these would work ?

http://www.ebay.com/bhp/lexus-touch-screen
also this place here says they repair 07-2011 es model navigation units from 275-800 dollars
