Default HID vs Halogen?

My parents just picked up a 08 ES350 and I can't figure out an easy way to find out if they have HID's or not? My GS4 has the HID's but I just can't think of a easy way without pictures to show them to know.

Anyone have pictures of their ES with HID's and pictures with halogens?

Thanks!

HID headlights emit a white light while the halogens look yellow. I have HIDs on mine and I notice a big difference in my Lexus and my Ford which has halogen lights

Actually u can just look at the bulb and/or connectors. Just google 2008 es300 hid bulb if u need to compare it with an image.

Both hid and halogen come in a range of light colors.

I guess I should explain the ES is 1200 miles away from me, my parents retired to Florida, I am west of Chicago. How do you explain to elderly parents to know what lights they have?

Are they different on high beams like most cars where the low beams turn off? Or is there some easy telltale of hid vs halogens?

Even in my GS4 the average Joe can't tell with lights off. With lights on yes, but someone who doesn't know cars won't have a clue.

Lol yeah bro i see... U know it may be easier to just have them stop into autozone and have someone just pop the hood and check. Or if ur dad knows how to pic message he can send u a shot of the back of the headlight... Same thing with my gma and i had her go to autozone cause she wasnt getting my description.

I was hoping some easy telltale. Good idea on stopping at an autozone to have them check.

Well u can tell by the actual reflector bowls with our GS' ... Im looking for ES images for you... But this would only work if the person who had it prior used the right bulbs so i guess looking at the bowl in the case doesnt apply nm.

High beams are halogen so your parents shoud be able to tell if the high beams emit a whiter light than the lows. Also if they have HID's they'd be adaptive and the headlights would turn/swivel a bit with the car when turning the steering wheel. It's noticeable if they look closely.

What is the upgrade path to HID's if they end up needing the light?

easiest way to tell is have them go into the car and turn on ignition (without starting the car so it has power) turn on the headlights, get out of the vehicle. Have them go over to the headlights in front of the car and listen for a high pitch hum or whine...if they hear it then they have HID's.

They easiest way to tell is if they have a garage pull the car in and turn on the lights and look at the lights if they get brighter and brighter as your looking then they probaly are hids. eBay has easy upgrades for like $30.
