Thinking about passing on a extended warranty
I bought a 2008 Es in April of this year. Only have 33,000 on it. I have till Feb 2012 to decide on a extended warranty. Love the Car. No problems at all. Only gonna drive around 5,000 miles a year on it.Thinking of passing on the extended warranty. Thoughts?

Mee Too!
I have exactely the same problem. I got a quote from my dealer for an extened warranty for $2100.00 and that gives me only 2 more years from feb of 2012. Don't think that it is worth it. My 2008 ES350 Ultra has only 38000 miles.

You can shop for the Platinum Extended warranty online for your Lexus. Much cheaper than $2,100. There are a number of searchs on this website for the name of the Lexus dealers that will discount the extended warranty. Just my experience on mine: bought it with the car for $1,200 for 5 year / 80 000 miles. Had the passenger side window almost fall out of the track due to weak part. Took the car in to the Lexus dealer and they had to replace the whole system, glass and all for a cost of $800. The extended warranty took care of it. Traded the 2007 in on a 2011 and received a check for $550 for two years of warranty leftover. So, I was ahead of the game by $150.

Lead Lap
When we bought our 2008 in early December from the local Toyota dealer, we were offered an extended warranty for $1750. It was a Toyota Platinum Care warranty and had numerous exclusions on normal "wear and tear" items. The dealer told me I had until the end of the factory warranty (November 2012) to make up my mind to buy it or not.
Given I have almost a year of the factory warranty left (and 9000 miles), I decided to wait & see how the car does. If it has issues, AND we still decide to keep it, then I may re-visit the dealer--before next November.

I have 113,400 miles on my '07 - no problems, long out of warranty. Purchasing extended warranties is almost never a good idea as they are huge profit centers for retailers. While if the rare costly event happens to you when you have no warranty you'll be wishing you had it, most of the time it is money down the drain.
Having said that, if you're willing to pay for the extra peace of mind, go ahead.

Just take a look at all of the issues being currently posted: water pump, oil pump, engine etc. Without an extended warranty, it is all out of pocket expenses and very high ones too courtesy of your Lexus dealership. Sorry, but for peace of mind, I opted for the extended warranties because the way cars are made now, it is mostly module pieces that can't be fixed, only replaced. Case in point: passenger side window that fall out of it's track due to a small plastic part failing. Just can't buy the plastic part for the repair, had to order the whole system including glass. $800 cost covered by extended warranty that I paid $1,200 for.

Well here's my two cents worth. I have 2008 LS460 headlight bulb blew. unfortunately my extended warranty would not cover it the mileage on the car is 72,000 miles and my extended warranty is supposed to protect for 5 yr./100,000 miles and it didn't. The repair cost me $235. The 'peace of mind' does not pay.

Warranty
I paid 800 dollars for a 2 year Platinum warranty for my RX. So far I have only used it to replace the XM reciever. About 300 dollars.
I still have about 14 months to go. Before I trade it in. Cheap piece of mind. And if you dont use it. You can get a refund or transfer it to the next owner.
