I haven't changed oil below 9K since I switched to synthetic at about 20K. I've usually used Mobil 1 Extended which claims it can go 15K. A couple of times I did go 15K between oil changes but have settled at 10K. I've had the oil analyzed twice to ensure 10K is a right time to change the oil - and it is. There was plenty of life left in the oil that I could have safely gone to 13 or 15K. 10K is a safe level for me.
