Angry Sensor will not sense key in trunk

The ES 350 is a car that you can never get locked out of. Boy, is this a deceptive selling feature. Accidently locked key in trunk. Pushed button several times and nothing happened. Trunk would not open, and all the doors were locked. Had to have car opened with a slim jim. Took car to dealer, who was able to recreate the problem. Found that when there are items in the trunk, certain areas in the trunk can not be sensed by sensor, thus you get locked out of car. Have even had the key " not dectected" when it was sitting next to the stearing wheel. Has anybody else experienced these problems? This is not a battery issue. Dealer at first thought the battery in key fob was weak. Changed the battery and the problem still existed.

No, I haven't had this problem with my 2009; in fact, just the opposite, more than once I have forgotten to take my keys/fob from my golf bag and closed the trunk; car beeped; trunk wouldn't lock.......great feature........if your wife leaves her purse in the car for security reasons be sure the extra fob is not in it ......car won't lock...........

If your wife leaves her purse in the car with the smartkey in it you can lock the door by pressing the lock button on your smartkey just as if you didn't have smartkey. My wife and I each carry our own keyfobs so this happens from time to time and after the reminder beep I just lock with my keyfob. I think with my 2007 when you locked with your keyfob you had to unlock with it when you returned but I don't recall that being an issue with my 2010. Sometimes she likes to put her purse in the trunk and I don't know of a way to lock the trunk with the keyfob in it intentionally other than figuring out just where in the trunk the keyfob could be located without being visible to the system.

I've got a 2007 and I lock it with the fob and as soon as my hand hits the handle it beeps and opens, so that hasn't been my experience.
