USB Connection to External hard drive
I didn't see a post about this in a quick search so I thought I would make one, and hope it's not redundant.
Regarding the USB input in the center console. I have a 2010 ES 350 (base pkg)
Steps to use an external Hard Drive for playing music:
1) FORMAT it to Fat32 (windows 7 cannot do this for drives bigger then 32gb)
--A) For really big drives (such as my Seagate 1 Tb) You can use a program such as SwissKnife to format from the normal NTFS to fat32.
2) Load your Fat32 drive with all the music you want. (I put my whole collection 62,385 songs ~ 300 Gb approx)
--A) Before putting it in your car. ORGANIZE it in a folder structure that you'd like but remember these limitations
* Maximum Hierarchy levels for folders:
- Root
---Level 1
-----Level 2
----------------Level 8
* 999 max folders (including root)
* max files 65,025
* Max files per folder 255
3) Plug yer hard drive into the port.
4) OPTIONAL ~ build a nice foam pad fitting for your HD so it can neat sit in the bottom of the console
5) Be the envy of all the kids on your block
It's awesome! Love my new car!
