Default Lost Smart Key

Hi everyone,
My mother has been consistently having this issue of losing the smart key within the car and outside (in the house). She is getting older and her memory is failing her in addition to the stress she is enduring at this stage of her life.

Is there a device that can detect the Smart Key's presence? Like some type of after-market detector?

We have definitely lost one key for good (Can't find it in her office, house, or car!). So we will most likely have re-program the car so as to eliminate the possibility of a future theft?

What would be the cheapest option of getting another key? Buying the actual fob from an online store and going to Lexus to reprogram it?

The car is a true gem and a value. However, I just wish my mom's memory would fix and she would be more focused.

BTW, we have a 2010 ES350 with Nav and are presently in Orange County, CA.

Thanks and Happy New Year!

I would think that the dealer would be your best option. In our case, the smart key is attached to our key ring, which includes the house keys and other car's key / remote. It's a big set of keys but it keep everything easier to manage.

You can get this.

Another option is to get your mum to just keeping the key in her handbag and using the keyless access and the button on the door handle to lock the car. That's what my mum does. She never takes the key out of her handbag, and since she is good about not losing the handbag, there is no problem.

Cheapest way to get a replacement key is either buy it online from Sewell using the clublexus discount, or buy one on bay. Either way make sure you get a key with the right fcc id. FCC id is printed on key. Make sure the key you buy online matches the fcc id on the existing key.

Good advice from garsarno and batman. She should just put her keys and fob on the same holder and keep everything in her purse. There's no need to even take the fob in and out of the purse to start, lock and unlock the car, and it will always be there with her other important items in her purse.

Definitely! Insert in purse and leave it there. No need to touch it until the dash display tells her the battery is getting low.

Does your mom know about this wonderful feature? One of my favs.
