Default Service Not Competitive

I called the Lexus dealer today because I need the 10,000 mile service which is oil change and tire rotation. They quoted $156.00 for the same service that the Toyota dealer charges $62.00 for for my wife's Corolla. But the Toyota dealer said they cannot do my Lexus by agreement between Lexus and Toyota. Oh well, I bet the independent shops will charge less than Toyota. Any recommendations on who in Chandler/Mesa/Tempe AZ?

Ed:

My recommendation is that you take your car to Lexus of Chandler and tell them you just want an oil change - I had mine done last week at 10K miles and the cost was $61. I even pass on the free wash and the loaner but both were offered. I usually rotate my tires myself although it is kind of a pain - better now that it's not quite as hot - but otherwise go to Discount Tire. If you have ever purchased tires from Discount they will probably do it for free but if not the charge will not be anything like $100. Or you can always go to a Jiffy Lube or whatever for even less although I don't think I would with a new Lexus.

Had mine done by independent garage:

Mobil One oil / filter / lube: $71.90
Tire rotation: $18.95
Fuel Injection Cleaner: $3.99
Dry gas $2.95
Tax: $5.87
Total: $103.66

My Lexus dealer charges about $120 for routine oil change/tire rotation.
Last time I had it done at Toyota for $39. They actually tried to entice me to stick with them by prepaying four services at $32 a pop. That's about a quarter of Lexus price.
And who needs a loaner? I'd rather take a shuttle or wait - oil change does not take long.
BTW, Lexus loaners are free, but my dealer charges $10 for fuel.

Our local Lexus dealer has a shuttle that will take you to our local casino (2 miles away). The $10 for fuel might be a pittance next to the amount you could lose at the slot machines.

Weird-- I have never had any trouble getting any of our local Toyota dealers to service my Lexus vehicles. They are unable to do certain warranty repairs, but service is no problem. Are the dealers in the Tempe area owned by the same company? Perhaps it is the dealership owner protecting their margins. It is NOT an agreement with Lexus itself.

I believe Lexus of Chandler is a Penske dealership and I don't think Penske has any Toyota stores in Arizona so I don't know what their agreement might be. And who turns down work in this economy?

Dave Mac: Big Two Toyota refused to do it although they did say they would do an oil change but not the tire rotation. Don't know if Big Two is a Penske. Oh well, LexTech in Mesa said they would do 10k check for $75 and would provide a loaner if I drop it off after work and pick it up the next day after work.

For PHX area owners, LexTech (Google LexTech) did the 10k mile check including reseting the maintenance minder for $75.00. He has a '91 LS460 for a loaner that I used. I dropped off my car on Tues afternoon after work and picked it up on Weds. He charges $.20 per mile which would have cost $10.00 but he discounted the charge by $7.00 so the $3.00 I paid would not even have covered the fuel consumed.

The maintenance was done satisfactorily, I had no issues. His shop leaves much to be desired compared to the dealer (amenities and cleanliness) but he charged 50% less so I did not miss the amenities.

I would recommend him.

Last time I had to wait for service at the Lexus dealership, it was in the Cleveland, OH area (Metro Lexus). Superb service in an emergency (replace wiper blade and new wiper arm that came off on the interstate, in a rain storm no less), all with the nice high price tag. Great waiting area, free coffee, cookies, capuccino bar area, luxury couches and big screen tvs. WOW.

All I know back in 2008, Toyota would say, ohh,. we don't have the parts for your lexus oil change, you have to pay ahead and order the parts before we make an appointment for your oil change. So I LEFT and drove 3 hrs to Lexus and spend the weekend in San Antonio + watch a basketball game.
But After this yrs, I found out that Lexus ES350 = Toyota Avalon, so why no parts ready for my LEXUS??

In Texas North Park San Antonio Lexus would given the list you have mentions plus a free massage. , but of coz, I have to pay the costly oil change or other services. I guess the extra costs are for the cookies, drinks and the free ($$) massage

Lexus ES350 = Toyota Camry is the better comparison. Our local dealer is also a Toyota dealer (mega dealer - Motorworld - Wilkes Barre, PA)
