Embarrassed to ask - Navigation System
I just purchased a 2008 Lexus ES350 with the Navigation System. The car is missing the user's manual for this feature so I am trying to figure out the setup on my own. I have deleted the old Home location and set my new one. I have also deleted any other saved locations.
Some Context:
The car was purchased from an owner in Nebraska and I live in the Seattle area.
The Problem:
The current position appears to be somewhere near Lincoln, NE, even though the car it is sitting in my driveway in Redmond, WA.
The Question:
What do I need to do to make the Navigation system properly "register" my location and show it on the local area map instead of showing my position near Lincoln, NE? When I set a destination the route correlates to an origin consistent with the display which as I said earlier is in the state of Nebraska.
I know this should be simple, but after poking around for 10 minutes I can't figure out why the darn GPS does not automatically display the car's proper location. I would not have thought that I needed to do anything to show my vehicles proper location. My Garmin at least does that!
Any help is greatly appreciated. I have to admit, it is humbling to have to ask such an apparently "dumb" question.

I seem to recall that you can go to the lexus site and look at the various manuals for the car. The nav info is there and it is the same as the OE manual. As to your problem you would need to get to the screen showing the various zones in the US. Then you need to click on your zone and this should star you from your home. Just make sure that you deleted the old home.

Why not call the Lexus 800 # and see if they'll send you one.

My car was missing the owners manual and Nav manual. I picked up both in the leather holder from eBay for about $30 including the instructional CD-ROM.
Some people sell these for $50-75 - but just be patient and you'll find a cheaper one.
I was thinking - where do all these come from? I guess it's just one more thing you can sell when you part out a wrecked car!

In the Nav setup menus you need dig down a few layers to set your US geographic region for the Nav to work now that the car has relocated across the country. I learned this during a trip to Cape Cod, MA from VA as my Nav could not find anything up there until I shifted the region.

Ya, you have to tell it what region you are in. I had to do this with my '05 nav system, I bought the car from a dealer in Texas, but it couldn't find anything in NH when I got it.
Seems kinda archaic to me. I would think the GPS should be able to use the Lat/Long to determine the proper map region on it's own. Heck, it should also be able to set the dash clock, since GPS relies on extremely accurate time to work.
