Default AC always on

Does all ES350 air condition turn on and stay on no matter what the temperature is set in the auto position.

It can be 20 degrees outside, I have the temp set to hottest and still, the AC light is on the climate screen. Can turn it off there.

However, when start up again, AC light is back on.

I know the compressor is running while I have the heater on... gas mileage drops.

Kind regards,

Keith

The default position for the A/C compressor is "on". This is done to reduce the humidity inside the car to keep the windshield and windows clear.

I always set the two climate control buttons as "auto", I like the auto recirculation feature.
and I can get 23 - 26 MPG normally.

Hold the auto recirculation button in for a few seconds and you can then adjust your smog level sensitivity on a 1 to 5 scale.

The A/C is designed to engage when you turn on the system by pressing Automatic. However just like it states in the owner's manual, the A/C compressor won't come on automatically if the outside temperature is 27 degrees or below. This is how mine works and I have a '07 ES350.

Default Compressor comes back on???

I have an 08 GS350 and if I turn the compressor off using the button on the bottom left of the climate menu screen it stays off even if I turn off and then restart the car.

A previous post indicated that the compressor on the ES350 comes back on if the car is restarted. Is this really the case?

Thinking about an ES to replace my wife's I30, but would not be happy if we have to keep turning the compressor off every time we start the car !!!

Thanks.

I have a 09 ES level III (Nav)and my air compressor works as explained by Lexus 1 and bearone. You should be able to turn it off on the Nav screen, Give it a try and if it stays on, something is wrong.

If you do NOT want A/C to come on when you press AUTO, you can ask your dealer to set it that way - it is part of LPS. You just have to tell them that's what you want and they'll take 5 minutes to do it.

I've had that done to my car, so now the AC is only on when I want it to - by pressing AC in the CLIMATE menu. When I press auto now, the system will regulate temperature as usual but does not engage AC.

Mine has been on since I purchased the car. I don't know why anyone would want to turn it off. I think they should have eliminated the off button. If you are worried about gas milage then buy a prius. Set it and forget it.

If you ever have an AC compressor seize and make a loud screaming noise, which I have had happen on a Lexus only a few months old, you will be very glad that you can turn the AC off.

Besides, why would someone want to drive with sunroof and windows open on a nice Spring day with the AC on?

The AC compressor only comes on when needed, even if the "AC" light is lit.
