Don't know if any of you folks have noticed this but I have a thump in the rear of my car when coming to a stop and then accelerating. I thought it was something moving around my trunk until I noticed that it only happens when the gas tank is full. So I am sure it is the gas tank thumping.
Next time I am at the dealer I will bring it up ...after I've used a couple gallons of gas it ceases to happen. 2008 es 350

Yeah, they all do this. It is a normal characteristic on a full tank. Your dealer probably won't and can't do anything about it. If they do, please share with the forum. I have had mine for two years and the dealer won't do anything about it.
Yes, I have this problem too. When I first got my ES, I kept looking to see if something was loose in the trunk, but never found anything. Then I thought I was hearing things. I wonder where that thump originates from?

I wouldn't necessarily call it "normal", per se; I mean, I've never heard it on any of the other cars I've owned and/or driven...Originally Posted by MD350

Normal only means it is prevalent. It does not mean "as it should be" or that it is acceptable or right. This is unacceptable Lexus "speak" for "live with it, we screwed up and won't do anything about it". This has been Lexus' attitude from day 1 on most of the problems associated with one of their worst models produced.Originally Posted by MD350
Oh, I agree! I guess that was a poor choice of words. But, Lexus thinks its normal.

Glad I got rid of mine.
My experience has been dfferent than yours. After nearly 2 1/2 years, my car has been problem free. It's been back to the dealer just two times in that period. Once for the complimentary 5K service, and once for a complete detailing which was included with the purchase.Originally Posted by NGG

No, they don't all do this. I always fill my tank to full. Have been since 5/06. Never heard this sound. And that includes every time I have my wife in the car, who doesn't like loud music.
