Default Auto night mode for nav?

Is there an auto night mode setting somewhere that I'm missing for the nav screen (08 ES350)? The screen is too bright for night time driving. I know I can turn off the screen, but I want it on, just dim or with inverted colors. My $200 Garmin Nuvi automatically inverts the the color of the screen at dusk (which is VERY nice). Can the factory nav do the same thing?

Thank you!

Yes, there is an auto day/night mode. I forgot what screen lets you make that adjustment though.

The setting is available in the Nav menu - FYI, if the panel light switch is set to full on, the night mode is de-activated. Check this first...

I found the panel night switch and it was set to always on. I took it down a notch and bingo night mode (in dark garage during the day). I still don't see a setting anywhere in any of the menus to control night mode. Is there an option somewhere?

I had the same problem when I picked up my car.

There's a little vertically oriented thumb wheel just to the left of the steering wheel on the dash that adjusts dahboard light intensity. This roller has a slight detent in the maximum illumination position (rotated all the way up). If it goes into that detent position, the dash lights (AND the nav screen) will always be on maximum brightness and will not automatically adjust for ambient light as it's designed to do.

Solution....just move it it out of the detent position by rotating it down a tiny bit.

Problem solved.

I cannot remember the exact sequence of buttons but the map view menu allows night mode off (daytime view always) or night mode on (auto mode)

It will not be hard to find if you just push buttons like a 5 year old...

If those are the only two option in the menu, then I don't need to find it. I'll just leave it in auto. I was thinking there might be a setting for sensitivity or something like that.

No user setting for sensitivity, although I had the dealer set my lights to come on at the minimum setting, (they come on earlier in the sunset), which in turn will cause the nav to go to night mode faster.
