Has anyone had Lexus turn their rotors under warranty? I have 20K miles on mine, starting to get some pulsation during braking and still have a lot of brake pad left.

 

It depends on the dealership. Rotors warping falls under maintenance. But they might write it off as a good will. Good luck!

 

When I had my '94 ES300, the same thing happened at 11K miles. I brought the car into my Lexus dealer and they replaced the pads & rotors under warranty. I think there was a TSB issued for the ES350's with this problem, so I suggest you go to your dealer to see if they could correct it, under warranty.

 

My '03 ES was given a complete 4 wheel brake job, including new rotors at 15K, and 100% warranty as there was a 'secret' recall on the rotors

I have 14,000 miles on mine and I felt a vibration and thought the rotors were wraped. Sure enough a turning made them right and for the past 500 miles they have been OK. I was surprised that they needed it so early. If it is required again in the next 5K miles or so I will make an effort to get them to replace the rotors. Perhaps there was just one bad front rotor and there was a defect in the unit. I asked that the pads be replaced too.

Thanks for all of your responses. The local dealer told me over the phone that it is not under warranty, and I do have over 20K miles on mine. I may go to my selling dealer and try them.

 

I just had my 30K service done today and noted to the service person that there was an unbelievable amount of vibration when braking at fast speeds. apparently I dont know enough about cars to realize this was a rotor thing. I had assumed that the wheels were out of alignment or something.

So, the rotors were turned today. This is the second time that has been done since I got the car August 06. I cant say I ever had a car that has had that done (at least I dont recall anyway) and yet this has now been done twice in the first 30K of the car.

Edit: I forgot to add that in neither time was I charged for turning them. I hope this is not a once a year thing because I assume that means something is defective.

 

I had my rotors turned at 15k and then again at 16500. A week ago I returned to the dealer (vibration again), I asked if they would replaced the rotors. They had to order back brakes, and now they have to replace the front brakes and rotors!

 

Was this done under warranty?

 

It's under warranty, I have less than 20k miles.

 

Just before my 4 year/50k warranty expired, Lexus resurfaced my front rotors for nothing (not sure if warranty, but I do remember the term goodwill used) as they suffered (before I started taking it to the track).

 

I have had my front rotors turned 2X in 25k miles, the last time they also replaced the back brake pads and turned the rotors all under warranty, the reaon for the rear pads, premature wear. Any one else have the backs done?

 

Well, I was thrown the keys in my face again (not exactly). But, I called my selling dealer today (who is about 40 miles from my house) and explained that I have warped rotors. Since my car is over 1 year old, they said I must pay for the repair. They said that I can call Lexus Customer service and fight it. But, they cannot turn the rotors under warranty if the in service date is over 1 year old.

On a 40K car, I don't expect this to happen at 22K miles. Maybe on a Chevy Cobalt, but come on!!!

Has anyone had them turned under warranty after their 1 year anniversary? Am I being unreasonable?

If I must pay, I'll have the local Toyota dealer do it for 1/2 the price.

Jeez, all I wanted was another 10 year problem free ES like my last one.

I got 14.8K on mine now and just starting to feel it. MF'er!

I haven't heard back from my friend at the local dealer. Yeah, like I expected a call back....

 

The big problem is this: A rotor, whether the car/brakes have 100 miles or 20,000 miles can warp if the rotor was extremely hot from heavy duty braking, and than cooled very rapidly......as when you go through a puddle, or a car wash.
It comes down to this: The dealer can be a good guy and turn or replace the rotor as a goodwill gesture, or he can stick to the warranty. It seems that lately they're the later.
