Cars are very very complicated and it takes time. The car DOES NOT have widespread issues. Some cars do, EVERY car from every brand has its poorly built cars.

Historically for the past 18 years, Lexus has had the LEAST amount. THey WILL have problems.

They are PURSUING perfection, they never said they WERE perfect.
Looking at the July sales information, Lexus is on pace to sell 80,000-81,000 ES in '07. Based on my problem-free 15 months of ownership, with an early build model (4/06) I'm confident that they'll be able to correct issues that surfaced in some cars.

I actually recommend the car, even if it has a finicky transmission or not. The one big reason why I bought the car is for its gas mileage. With the prices so high, its great to get 30+ mpgs. Unless you plan to keep this car for over 300k miles, the transmission with all its quirkiness should last over 100k. The interior is superior to any other car in its class and its whisper quiet on the highway. The only negative in this car IMO, are the seats. My 2006 ES330 are much much more comfy. I drove the 350 for an hour once and I felt like I need to just get up and move around. In my 330 I can drive for hours and not feel like that. Other than that and the stereo(non ML) its a great car!

Most of the enthusiast magazines don't rate cars like the ES too highly since they favor more aggressive handling and driving characteristics. On the other hand, Consumer Reports, JD Power, Consumer Guide etc. give it high ratings.

i just get those car magazines to look at the pictures, to me i think its stupid that all they rly base a car on is its performance . of course i dont want to by a car that is slower then a semi, but wat person is driving thru cones and trying to figure out the 1/4 mile time on a daily basis. so i dont care wat they say, if i think a lexus is a good car, i dont care if every magazine in the world says it sucks ill damn well enjoy the car and nothing will bring me down

I would wait till you see an announcement of a new transmission for either the 08, or the 09 model release and as well bulletins and repairs for things like wind noise for the ES as currently for LS model and a bulletin/repair for engine knocking tapping noise.
