Aloha folks, I have a2007 ES 350 w/172K miles. I bought it used w/ 164K. Most of my driving is about 5 miles many less than 1 mile. I change oil every 6 months, Mobile 1 5W30. The question is, should I put in some Marvel Mystery oil or do you think that Mobile 1 is keeping it clean inside? TKS Ed
I’ve used MMO for different things over quite a few years. I would not do that.
MMO is a light oil and not a solvent. It’s not going to clean anything at any meaningful concentration you could add w/o diluting the oil. Mobil 1 is quite solid. It’s probably doing just fine for you. If you did want to get more “cleaning” done, here are a few things you could do:
1) Switch to a 10w-30 oil - you don’t need 5w-30 in Hawaii and it has viscosity improvers in it that are wasted, and sheer and leave debris behind. Won’t make a big difference to cleaning, but is a sound move.
2) Supplement your oil with a little ester additive for cleaning - like Lubegard Biotech or others.
3) Switch to Mobil 1 EP oil - it has more exotic synthetic oils for cleaning like AN and ester components.
4) Go to a boutique synthetic oil like Redline (pricey), or the new Valvoline Restore and Protect (not very pricey).
