Buying a 2012 ES 350
With any used car, maintenance history and an independent mechanic inspection are required to be sure you are getting a reliable vehicle. Review through the threads here and try some searches to learn more about the issues with this car as it has been discussed a lot. Getting the transmission fluid changed before 100,000 miles (50,000 is ideal) helps a lot with preserving it past 100,000 miles. There are other things that need to be done around 100,000 that need to be confirmed such as coolant change, brake fluid change, power steering fluid change. Spark plugs are not due until 120,000 but can go 150,000 easily.
Do you have a CarFAX report? Who is selling it? What is their warranty, if any?
You can go to the Lexus drivers site linked below, join for free and enter the VIN of any Lexus you are considering to buy used and then it lets you see the dealer service history and the car build sheet that shows its options. The site is a bit cranky and does not always work, so you may have to try a couple of times. https://www.lexus.com/My-Lexus/account/create-account
To see the service history at Lexus Drivers do the following:
On the page that lists the car whose VIN you entered there will be a line that states
Vehicle Health Report
Learn More - click this box
Then on the next page it will state
My Service
On the right side it will state Service History
View History - click this box to see the service history
Then it will slowly take you to a page you need to scroll down to see the service history
Each entry will be a line, click on the + at the side to see more about each entry

I will give you a slightly different perspective if its from a private seller. If car looks good and has good price, and your mechanic, or whoever is qualified does not see anything wrong — you should buy it and not hassle too much and complain about every little thing that is wrong. If on a 12 year old car you start becoming a pain asking for receipts and other things, the seller might just sell it somewhere else who does not give them a headache and you will miss something that is of good value. I know examples when this happened. So always use your best judgment.
es350 2012 is a last year of this gen, its very reliable car in general, and there will be demand for it
