Default Drive train has a "bump"

Greetings
When I put my old Lex in "drive" I feel and hear a bump as the trany takes hold. It seems an unsmooth and a "loose" feel. It sounds like it is external to the trany and engine but definitely in the drive-train.
Thinking it may be a CV joint going wrong I tried making a full motion circular turn but did not hear any clicking from the joint.
Any ideas what could be making the noise when I put it in drive?

Roy

Hello,

It is normal to have a bump if you shift from Park to Drive when the car is cold, since it tends to hold pretty high warm-up RPM. If it doesn't feel quite right, it is more likely than not a problem with engine mounts, given that they are at least 20 years old, chances are they are pretty tired.

To check them, the procedure is the same as bushings in control arms, check for cracks and tears, then use a pry bar to see how far they move. Only get OEM ones, aftermarket mounts don't last at all.

Hope this helps and best of luck!
