Default 3ES Top Mounts

I have about 60-70k miles/7 years on Lexus front top mounts. I realized it seems to just be a solid piece of metal with a notch for the shaft of the shock absorber and a cup for the bearing to sit in. Is there any rubber in that piece to deteriorate?

I know the rear top mount is a molded piece of rubber with some metal in the middle but the front seems to be all solid metal.

I would like to avoid spending money on that part if it’s okay to reuse. What are your thoughts?

These are the best photos I found. I just can’t recall how they’re constructed from the last time I did struts.

There is rubber between the mount point and frame. I've seen way more failures from rust than the rubber giving out.

Hello,

It does have rubber insert in there, and I learned it when my front suspension started creaking quite badly. As a soft of a diagnostics technique, I figured to pour a bunch of silicone oil in those mounts - low and behold, the noise stopped and haven't returned in over a year already, and my struts are still original, the car has 215,000 miles. All I am saying is if they were replaced relatively recently, and there are no concerns about your current mounts right now, I would say they are safe to reuse, since there is no reason to suggest otherwise.

Hope this helps and best of luck!
