Default 09 TPMS woes

Help

I replaced the tire pressure monitor sensors in my 09 ES350. For some reason only 2 of the 4 are recognized by the computer. This despite repeated attempts by the guy at Smyth Autoparts to reprogram/check them and repeated registering the new sensors with the car computer. Sensors are QWIK sensor Universal brand at Smyth.
It seems like the front 2 tires are the only ones registering pressure.
Could it be a distance problem... back tires too far away?
I plan to rotate tires and check
Does anyone know if the spare would need a TPMS and if not replacing it would be a problem for the system?
When updating the sensor S/N info it asks for 5 wheels... I just put 0's in for the 5th wheel
I am about to take the sensors off and return them but would like a better understanding of how the system actually works
I probably will just disable the warning light, its not worth the risk to spend the $150 on parts that don't work

I had found that Lexus requires you to reprogram the sensors using it's serial number into the TPMS module. Also if the car had a full size spare with a sensor in it you need to replace it and program it. If your tire dealer couldn't do it he may have a problem with his program tool or there is a problem with the other 2 sensors.

A small piece of electrical tape will solve your TPMS light problem. PM me for complete installation details

I was expecting problems with TPMS on my 2007 ES but all went smoothly. I bought new tires at Costco and asked them to install new sensors same time. I bought Denso (Lexus OEM) sensors on Amazon.com with Amazon as a seller. Denso should be coming preprogrammed.

Amazon Amazon
