Does anyone know there is setting to shut off the headlight immediately once the engine is shut off? I know there is delay setting in which you can set it to off, but even when the engine is turned off the headlight will not shut off immediately if the door is not opened. This could cause issues. For example, you park somewhere at night, turn off the engine and sit in the car waiting for someone. The headlight will not turn off unless you turn it off on the headlight switch. You may not pay attention to the headlight and it’ll drain your battery. This happened to me twice. I had to call road side assistance for a jump twice.

Is there a DEALER setting to shut it off NO MATTER WHAT when the engine is turned off?

 

The answer to your question is different depending on the year of your ES.

For the 2013 ES that I previously owned, the headlights can be set to turn off immediately after the engine is shut down by changing the Light Settings in the Navigation System. It is custom setting #14, and the choices are to have the headlights turn off immediately, after 30 seconds, after 60 seconds, or after 90 seconds.

For the 2017 ES that I currently own, I don't believe that there is a setting to change the headlight off behavior, but you can have the headlights shut off immediately by pressing the lock button on your key fob twice with all the doors closed.

I'm not sure about what options exist or don't with other Generation 6 ES model years.

I should add, though, that, if your battery is discharging after the headlights have been on for 30 seconds without the engine running, there is some other problem with the condition of the battery, another drain on the battery, or the way that the car is charging the battery. There was a problem with battery drain on some early Generation 6 ES that required the replacement of a gateway computer per a technical support advisory that was issued by Lexus.

 

I agree lesz that it appears there may be another problem worth considering. You may be right concerning the 2017 es, by pressing the lock button twice as I have never tried that procedure. There is an additional setting on the 2017 to shut off the headlights when the drivers door is opened. See attached.

I have a 2014 ES. The setting in the navigation system is exactly the one I was talking about. Like I said, even with that setting at OFF, the headlight will not turn off unless BOTH engine is turned off AND a door is opened. I have tested it several time.

According to the owner's manual on page 230, "The headlights and tail lights turn off 30 seconds after the “START STOP ENGINE” <“POWER”> switch is turned to ACCESSORY mode or turned off and a door is opened and all of the doors and trunk are closed. (The lights turn off immediately if on the key is pressed twice after all the doors are closed.)"

You probably misunderstood me. I didn't get battery drained within 30 seconds. I was sitting in the car for 35 min with headlight on...didn't pay attention to that...I thought a luxury car takes care everything...obviously not ....headlight did not turn off even I turn off the engine, because I never opened any door. I guess from now on I'll just go old way...turn it off on the switch.
