Just a generic heads up: The manufacturer spends much time here to quiet the motor. I like the sound of a fuel injected motor sucking air... not in a lexus, but i do like it. so it will be louder especially under load.
The performance value is minimal
The risk to suck in water and blow your motor is MUCH higher. I would fabricate a box for the filter to sit in, blocking splashes from the bottom
Paper filters are exponentially more effective, filtration wise, and don't allow small particles through like K&N reusable "performance" ones.
Way back in the early 2000's, I blocked off all of the alcoves in the line from the air box to the throttle body in a 5S-FE and got the "intake sound" without any of the possible risks of an open exposed filter.
I run a paper element in my hotrod. I use a DENSO paper element in my Lexus. The minivan is WAY overdue thanks for reminding me!
