Default Will these rims work? (+40 offset)

Hi all,

I'm driving a 2005 ES330 and am looking to get some snow tires and figured I may as well get some rims so I can switch between them myself year after year. Currently I have 215/55R17 on I believe 17x7JJ rims (I think the offset is is +50). The ones I'm looking to get are 16x7J with a +40 offset. (they were previously mounted on a LS400 series, so I know the center bore and PCD are correct.)

Looking at wheel-size.com (https://www.wheel-size.com/size/lexu...5/#sel=3:1,4:1) I see that Rims for this car should have an offset of 41-50. Will it be ok to have an offset of 40? I think this will make them stick out about 10mm further than current which I don't believe will protrude past the wheel well.

Thanks in advance!

I doubt 10mm would be an issue but hopefully someone with your car can chime in. You can test this yourself get something 1cm wide and put it up against the tire and check for clearance. Not a perfect test because tires with the same specs are not always the identical dimensions especially width.

If the wheel actually has an offset of 40mm then it should fit fine. In fact, it might make the car's stance a bit more aggressive.
However, I would not solely trust wheel-size.com. It stated my GS350 had an offset of 50 when it has an offset of 45mm. Therefore my Solara rims (ET50) won't clear the brakes.

With your ES you have a lot of choices for used wheels. You can get anything from a Camry, Avalon, ES300 or Solara and it will bolt up directly since they're all based on the same platform. Make sure you get the recommended tire size when downsizing, which I believe is 215/60/16, a very popular size.
